Is there a tell tale sign that the car is fitted with the 13 speaker audio system? Other than counting all 13 speakers?
As there is no such thing as a 13-speaker audio system the answer is no!The standard Dolby surround setup is 9-speakers - it is absolutely fine as it is and much better than in some £100k cars. There is also an optional 11-speaker setup which is technically slightly better although it is hard to tell the difference from listening to it.
Feel free to correct me.

Page one of this topic referred to a 13 speaker Pro-Logic audio upgrade.
It is also referred to in this PDF from the Volvo club: http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/press/volvo2006uk/S60M...
If I am wrong I apologies.
You are correct, mine has 13 speakers (you need to use a torch to look into the mesh/covers and you CAN count them all)It is also referred to in this PDF from the Volvo club: http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/press/volvo2006uk/S60M...

Other than whipping a torch out and staring through mesh grills are there no tell tale signs? Like 'Pro-Logic' written on the head unit?
Ah there is a button on the stereo for Pro-Logic mode off/on on mine. (the top right button, above the CD eject button) Picture from Google images (mine is a manual and Centigrade on the Climate Control knobs):

Viewing S60's at the weekend. Would value your thoughts on these two:
Option 1
Option 2
Do not worry about the postcode, it is an old one I have no use for these days
Auto or manual. Which would you go for and why?
In addition, what should I be looking for in the history files:
Timing belts - how often should these be changed according to the service book?
Injectors
Anything else?
Timing belt (off the top of my head I have no idea, might be worth googling it) Option 1

Injectors - If idle is smooth and even leave them alone.
Anything else:
The concentric Clutch slave cylinder is a poor design, it goes pop from anything between 75-175k (mine went at 150k), if it's been replaced and they have proof then that is a bonus, if it hasn't been done there's not a lot you can do other than bear it in mind (over £1k job if/when)..
The intercoolers are made of cheese and swell-up over time (less time if remaped) mine is on 2nd intercooler (I got hold of a used OEM intercooler FOC, but if it goes again I'll be throwing a 3rd party one on it)
Suspension parts can knock and clunk, usually the front and/or rear drop-links...quick, cheap and easy DIY fix
OEM Rear shoes (handbrake) friction material come away from the plate and wreck the hub...if it hasn't had decent ones fitted then get to it pronto (Mine has MINTEX discs, pads and shoes all round)
I think that's about it for now...might come back to this post from home later once I've had a think.

100% option 1.
Its the facelift with the better electrics and nicer interior/lights etc.
Id always take a manual over an auto with these too - the autoboxes all go pop at some point.
Really? I thought Volvo Autos were bombproof, apart from the stty General Motors (who else would it be ) one in my XC90 T6 Its the facelift with the better electrics and nicer interior/lights etc.

So much so that I'm handing mine over to my Mrs when I get it's replacement.

Got myself a cheap code reader today, it seems my car problem is related to the MAF, and unplugging it makes no difference to the rough running (although that's probably not very scientific). It's a second hand unit anyway that was fitted last year, so it's not unreasonable to assume it's dead.
Anyway, it seems I can get a genuine Bosch MAF off eBay for around £220, or an aftermarket one for around £32.
The Bosch part is stupidly priced (although I believe it's £300 from Volvo), but is the aftermarket one too much of a risk?
I'm obviously going to sell the car, as I no longer need it (as mentioned before I think), but don't want to stitch a new owner up. On the other hand, why pay £220 if a £32 one will do.
I suspect I know what the answer will be.

btw what code reader did you use? I was under the impression the cheap ones wouldn't read Volvo codes accurately.

So did he time the belt up wrong?
No, it was done perfectly. Unfortunately, the belt has picked up a piece of debris from the cam belt cover (a tab which has broken off, possibly during the job) which seems to have caused it to jump. He's phoned me up, very apologetic, and has basically offered to buy the car off me. I'm going to think about it over the weekend, it might amuse me to strip the engine myself, I can't bugger it up any more than it already is, and ultimately I guess I can break it.
Oddly enough, someone contacted me when it was for sale, wanting it for the body, as he'd got a good engine (and presumably a damaged body). I've just emailed him to see if he still wants it. It saves everyone a headache if I can just move it on as is.
You're all going to say I'm soft, and should let the mechanic take the hit. He's a genuine, and very nice chap (and is quite upset about it all), so if I can sort it painlessly I will. It was an old car anyway, it's not worth me or anyone else getting upset over.
st happens, as they say.

It is, I've only scrapped a car once before, and it seems a bit like taking a dog to the vet for the last time (even though it's only metal and plastic).
If you think of anything you want, give me a shout, it's going to be a slow process I think as I'm quite busy in the run up to next year. We shall see.
Sorry to hear this If you think of anything you want, give me a shout, it's going to be a slow process I think as I'm quite busy in the run up to next year. We shall see.
Was gutted to scrap my old 850 20valve when it's time came!
The Beater Golf may well go the same way once I have my new car (passing my S60 on to MissB).
It'll be a shame to scrap it as it is fundamentally a good car but it is worth feck all as rust has got hold and the sunroof now leaks like a sieve.

My daughters S60 D5 163 died last night from the very same belt failure.
Car presently awaiting the garage to drag her in and confirm .

Auxiliary Belt has snapped and been sucked into the cam belt.
Just putting a new cam belt kit on to see if engine is ok .
Cant see that it possibly can be , but you have to have a bit of luck one day or another.
She was just pulling away at the single alternate lane road works to the North of Newbury when it went , so stopped the whole road Y2 will understand how much hassle this caused at peak time !
Hopoefully low revs etc she may be lucky , but ........ just got to sit it out now.
