I got it! I got it!!!
Long story short is that it's got a broken CD player (think a Grom is the best way to get around this) and it flashed up an "Anti Skid Service" light during the test drive, but it went off quickly, the seller seemed genuinely surprised too.
I ended up negotiating £250 off to cover the risk of this coming back (it didn't in about 100 miles home), and the CD player. Paid £2,750.
The car is obviously a well cared for example. Spotless interior, four premium tyres, full history. You can just tell when you sit in it that it hasn't been thrashed.
Performance is great for a diesel, and it shows 61mpg on the way home (according to the computer), if the reality was even close to that I'll be thrilled.
Happy boy tonight
Apologies for the rubbish picture, it was screen grabbed from a message I sent a mate day ago...

Unfortunately I forgot to reset the trip, so have no way of doing a brim to brim at the moment, will get it on the next tank!
Just had the garage on the phone (I got it squeezed in early for it's belt change) apparently it needs an engine mount and a sidelight. Other than that it's perfect

Update is that a main dealer want £326 to change the cam belt, aux belt and the tensioners. Seems fair to me.
Off to go view it tomorrow afternoon, starting to get a little excited! Will of course post an update when I eventually get back even if it's without a car!

...or don't, as we've discussed on VOC Forum
I did ask the dealer to check and they've advised there's nothing at all wrong with it and no need to change. It's a refreshing change from the plastic pump used in the Duratec V6 that I had in my previous Fords which was fit for the bin before it was even a decade old.
I think I may end up keeping this car for quite a while.
Has anyone else got an E3 on a 55 plate? Must be one of the latest ones in the country surely?
Driveshaft bolt you say? I'll get that checked then, it's only done it twice though, and has been fine since. Is this the thing that I read about with the bolt behind the centre caps?
I must say, the car is already cementing it's place as one of the best I've owned (from a luxury, quality and comfort point of view at least), and it's certainly the most economical.
I haven't even tried rescuing the CD from the player, it's obviously a broken changer mechanism so it seems pointless to spend much money on it. Especially as I've already installed my Grom bluetooth streamer I still haven't got around to fitting the microphone though so that's definitely a job for next weekend I think.
The next job after that is to sort out the three separate rattles that it suffers from (the rear somewhere, the centre console, and the driver's door card)

Yes it is (14mm IIRC)I agree though, I love mine to bits. Great car.

Brake warning is possibly the reluctor rings which the abs system uses. Cheap and easy fix, however it's even more likely to be a loose driveshaft bolt, which is a free fix
EFA and to share some slight personal embarassment.I've got an honest readers rides thread going if anyone is looking at buying one of these

I don't doubt it, what I was saying is that it's more likely to be the bolts, which are an easy check - before one orders up reluctor rings and books the car in to have them done
Well, my friendly local garage didn't have time to get it in and start checking dirty bits, but they did pop the code reader on it for me at lunchtime.Up came something about a control module comms failure and a steering angle sensor internal fault. Could that still be the driveshaft bolts? (seems unlikely)
Assuming it's the steering angle sensor, any easy fixes that don't involve a wallet raping? Also, could it just carry on intermittently for ages or is it likely to go pop properly soon?

Good guy, and honest. He'll happily give you an indication.
ETA
He's "Horton" on the VOC Forum if you wanted to pm him, BTW

The comms code is because of the steering angle sensor fault. There is a software upgrade which increases the tolerance before a code is logged but if that doesn't work they're not the end of the world. You can fit a used one as they're not coded and will usually self calibrate if you fit them straight.

I had a persistent rattle from the rear which turned out to be a front drop link! Noise must travel. The centre console one was in the glovebox. The driver's door card rattle I have never cured, though it only occurs when the car is cold. There was a buzzing noise on full lock either way along with a message about the ABS which was the driveshaft rings. Car was so smooth after the drop links were renewed and the ABS rings replaced.
Don't forget to clean the EGR (You Tube)
Now at 154k miles and sweet and economical, Though a few years ago I missfuelled, had a new steering rack,intercooler,a/c condensor and replaced all the brakes. Mine is an 05 which doesn't have a DPF which is a bit of a relief

Filled up for the second time yesterday, reported 42mpg, actual 39.2mpg over a mixed tank of urban crawl and high speed motorway runs. I'm utterly in love
