Ive got a 2000 V70 which has done 130k.Up to about 80-90k I always used Volvo dealerships, but noticed the costs were becoming steeper.I figured as the car was losing value,I didnt need to Volvo service it any more,so I shopped around.Tried one local guy who said he could do it,but would have to take the car to Volvo to get the service-interval reset, and they charged him/me £50 as Volvo told him it was a diagnostic/software issue.
Anyway I have used a different garage for the last couple of years and just had my service done this morning. On leaving,I noticed they hadnt reset the interval light.Went in and the guy held down the trip-reset button for 20-30 seconds and the service-interval light went off......
Volvo charge £50 for that !!!!...and they wonder why we get the local garage to do it instead ?

Ive owned a number of "premium" brands (whatever that means) and Volvo are by miles the most expensive of the lot....I even had to take them to Volvo UK to get something done under warranty, which they were trying to charge me for.
Quick example....80k service from Volvo £430...90k service independant garage £115.....
basically it needs serviced every 10k so any "loss" in px from not having FVSH is offset
Actually I just px'd this week against a new Audi A6 and it didnt make a blind bit of difference to them that the last 5-6 services werent done by Volvo.

So,correct me if Im wrong,as BMW spun me the same story with my X5 service interval lights.Unless there is a fault code, there shouldnt be any reason why my local, independant(and superb)garage should not be able to fully service my car and re-set the interval lights...the guy certainly had a very large book which he referred to for the V70
Just making sure before Audi spin me the same story when I pick up the A6 this week ??
