I'm really tempted by the PoweredUp trains (more in getting the components than a set) for the programming aspects of an automated layout.

Has anybody 'played' with this?
Search for "L Gauge" or "L Scale"

Back from Legoland and can only say I dont feel I got my moneys worth.

I realise they need the rides to get the people in but for me Legoland is all the mini models, etc. not a bunch of rides with random lego models scattered about. They like to rinse you on the food and drink as well. Not unexpected really but still irritating.

On the plus points, the view towards London and Windsor next to the shop at the main entrance is amazing. I never realised it was so high up. Watching the aircraft taking off from Heathrow and flying overhead took the edge off standing in the queues as well.

They shut half of it when I went due a thunder storm for most of the day which was disappointing. Thankfully that view was stunning, not somewhere i'd rush back to.

I tried the Powered Up app on my phone last night and its much better than the controller option.

You connect to the train via bluetooth and, aside from the extra sound effects, you get much more control over the speed as its infinite options via a speed control 'wheel' rather than in defined steps via the controller.

As my son found out, if you wind it up all the way to the red then you end up with an epic train crash as soon as it gets to one of the bends. laugh

I also found it utterly underwhelming. Average rides with token efforts at a lego "theme", a high price, and long queues.

I most enjoyed mini-land, and my daughter's favourites were the playground, slides, and lego-building. The remainder of the park is quite forgettable.

Paulton's park is a better day out for children (and grown ups, actually).

It seems that its better to spend the money on one of the LEGO Shows, like Bricktastic and spend the rest of the money on some LEGO.

The little Classic Space GWP is up for Insiders, minimum £180 purchase.

Time to get Discovery, I think.

I love the mini space set. I'm gutted though as I have a pre order in for the Senna set and the big stitch. Pretty sure I could have stretched it further to meet the cost. Might look on eBay though...

I didn't need very much convincing!

Also the mini haunted mansion which is on sale; I am not familiar with the inspiration but it looks like a nice little build and model.

I should get on with building some of the backlog now then!

No way... I didn't realise there was a 'project 626'!!
Hmm, tempted. Wish I could have bought Wall-e when he was for sale

The mini haunted mansion is a really nice little build. I picked it up in the Lego at Disney Springs in Florida for peanuts celebrating the film launch and really enjoyed the build and detail.

I bought the Wall-e when it was available and gave it to a then girlfriend - she was many levels of bonkers and I never ever saw it built. I'm absolutely gutted to not own it frown

Bah, I’d decided I’d treat myself for my birthday to 10497 Galaxy Explorer as I’d seen it at Smyths last time I was there in Nov with kids doing a Christmas recce.

Drove there yesterday, via the carvery which was a bit st, and no 10497s. Kids got some fun toys though hehe

Then a tiresome traffic’y drive home.

So Lego, fk you with your utterly idiotic FOMO feeding limited releases and stupid profiteering tttishness.

I can’t believe what was £80 is now about £110 to £120 on bricklink or amazon etc.

Why are Lego doing this?

I still don’t get why they can’t do plain box sets of bricks with digital instructions to build up old kits for people who just want old kits… but without having to pay scalpers a 25%-35% mark up for a set that just a few months ago was on shelves!

People selling retired Lego for a profit are scalpers because you failed to buy one when they were available ?

They do it because of posts like this smile You clearly want want want. Plenty of others are the same and prepared to buy into it. Let it wash over you, wean yourself off it, chill out. You'll feel better.

You can download instructions for old sets and buying bricks new or used is pretty straightforward.

Yeah I might just bricklink a set together and do substitutions where required.

But for now I’m now not spending £80 with Lego… my son got some hot wheels stuff instead.

I just expected them to be around longer.
My local smyths still has a big millenium falcon, a freight train from 2016, loads of old stuff kicking around.

Obviously these kits were popular… but if so why stop making them? It’s just 95% generic bits… why limit a popular kit?

Isn't that obvious? The car industry's been doing it with success for a while - drives demand up / means people will pay a premium (for no good reason).

To ensure they keep demand up for new releases.

But people weren’t paying a premium. The premium is made by resellers.
Surely that harms brand value?

Any way it’s not my issue. If it works for Lego then fine, but it’s stopping me bothering buying kits I actually want… and in doing so my kids aren’t as interested in it and just want other toys instead.

I agree newer kits need to have demand… but if you don’t want the newer kits that’s not going to work.

I managed to buy quite a lot of limited kits in the past before I had kids.

But since kids I don’t, and often by the time I see them, think about them, maybe build kids up to wanting them, they’re gone… so I don’t get chance to buy.

Just feels a bit crap that’s all. But carry on smile
