I might be missing something - I get the irritation that you planned to buy a set and it's no longer available - but isn't the answer to buy them when you can, and occasionally check the page on the Lego shop site that tells you when things are going off sale?

… why limit a popular kit?
Isn't that obvious? The car industry's been doing it with success for a while - drives demand up / means people will pay a premium (for no good reason).
But people weren’t paying a premium. The premium is made by resellers.
Surely that harms brand value?

Any way it’s not my issue. If it works for Lego then fine, but it’s stopping me bothering buying kits I actually want… and in doing so my kids aren’t as interested in it and just want other toys instead.

I agree newer kits need to have demand… but if you don’t want the newer kits that’s not going to work.

I managed to buy quite a lot of limited kits in the past before I had kids.

But since kids I don’t, and often by the time I see them, think about them, maybe build kids up to wanting them, they’re gone… so I don’t get chance to buy.

Just feels a bit crap that’s all. But carry on smile
The premium is made by resellers AFTER THE SET HAS RETIRED ..... You could have purchased the set at anytime up to that for RRP just try to buy sets for the RRP before they are retired and Bobs yer Uncle .....

Edit for Sporky I need to type faster ! hehe

Well I didn’t really have £90 at the time while budgeting for the kids gifts and Christmas etc.

I thought I’d think on it after Christmas and treat myself in the new year at my birthday.

I didn’t know it was time limited, it was just on the shelf with all the other Lego. I even took a pic to remind myself while also taking pics of all the stuff the kids were showing an interest in.

Nothing is standing out to me here as “buy now, fomo, or you’ll get shafted by some chump later who buys it specifically to sell on for a profit”

I don’t really go on Lego.com. I just buy sets I see and look interesting.
I’m not into Lego enough to look all the time.

I just thought it was a bit st. But it’s clearly the way Lego roll these days…
Almost any kit you miss out on, suddenly has hundreds of resellers asking daft money.

If there is still such a market why do Lego miss out on selling a kit to a customer at a good price, and instead leave them pissed off facing daft prices or missing out?

If others are happy with this that’s fine, but as a person who just goes to a shop to buy Lego kits as a treat with my kids, it just leaves a sour taste and me wanting to say feck off to Lego and buy my kids other toys instead.

I mean, what kind of sellout would I be if I’d said that kit I really wanted… waited months for till my birthday… oh I can’t get it now, but I can’t get a vase of roses or a parrot, yeah that’ll do?

Maybe if they had a half decent range of imaginative creative space lego I’d have bought something else, but it’s all just Harry Potter, Star Wars, or some other crap.

Oh for the 80s space kits again.

Those that were interested in the Mini space GWP hope you already got your order in as its gone already.
Sold out before general release, no doubt going for silly money on ebay now.

I can sympathise.

And indeed, oh for the 80s space kits again!

I thought I had a fairly decent handle on what was retiring soon but alas the Galaxy Explorer caught me out, sort of.

I already have the new version (thanks to Mrs.e, Christmas 2022) - as well as the original - but my nostalgic cravings for the 80s led me to the rational decision to purchase another 10497 so that I could build one of the alternative models. A Space Cruiser if memory serves… Anyway, also too late so no doubt I’ll opt for the inevitable shafting from a reseller/ebay etc.

A really enjoyable build by the way! tongue out

Yup, spent £260 notes on the National History Museum to secure that little treat!

Has anyone been tempted by the new Kingfisher?

https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/kingfisher-bird...

Popped by Lego store yesterday and they had one displayed, it looks superb!

ASked the good lady if it was one that she would like and she's very keen on it so I guess it might be a purchase with points.

I saw that in a Lego store and was quite disappointed especially at the price.

Had a bit of an odd issue recently with a new lego purchase, 10265 (Ford Mustang) - bought direct from lego shortly before it was retired, and found that one of the 3×2 printed tiles had quite a major printing flaw:

Contacted lego customer service, who promptly dispatched a replacement - unfortunately the new piece also has a printing error! Admittedly not quite as significant as the original, but annoying nonetheless:

So I contacted customer services again, who were very apologetic and immediately sent out another replacement. Currently waiting for it to arrive - hopefully third time lucky rolleyes

It does have a lot of moving parts though, but I agree once you've stopped flying it around your living room the regret might set in once it's sat there.....

I've been getting miffed for the last few years to the point where I buy very few sets now compared to a while ago. At least its not a McLaren something as Lego seemed to of jumped into bed with that brand sleep
