Superb post. From a time when RC models looked like the cars they were modelled on not made to look like plastic toys. Many thanks for this.http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=2...

after seeing that, i went on a mission to find one, then realised its nitro engined (had a 3 speed nitro car a while back, lots of nitro bother so don't want to go back there!)then I found this
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YF-Rix58b_E (over 165kmh run)
and found the car in the video is based on this
so, promtly ordered and will be here soon (i hope) would a 165khm toy get me points should i "play" with one of those speed things that shows your speed to you in some towns?
what's the most someone has had one of them things display ?
edit, would it even pick up a 1/10th model made out of graphite/alloy ?

Greetings
Glad to see there are plenty of RC fans on here.
Not raced for years but used to run 1/10th off road at Taunton/Tiverton.
Started off with a Boomerang but quickly changed to an Optima Mid then a Lazer ZX. Ran that for a good few years and gained a few trophies in the club championships and SWORDS meets.
Changed to the CAT 2000 when that came out and never looked back once the EC version came out.
Still have quite a few cars, the CAT 2000, a CAT 3000, a Fireblade USA, TTech Predator XK98, couple of Tamiya's (Subaru WRC and an Audi A4 touring car).
Just bought a Thunder Tiger EB4/S2 as my first nitro car - always wanted one so here goes.
Can see pics of some of my collection here http://www.audi-20v.co.uk/RCCars/index.htm
Keep up the good work
He he, I used to race at Taunton too, the track in the far corner of the Rugby Ground, run by errr Phil Mason I think his name was??? Was a good 25 years ago though! My mates dad sorted out the huge rostrum!!Glad to see there are plenty of RC fans on here.

they are not nitro. see my one above. it runs a 23cc 2 stoke.
ohh yeah i saw the zorst pipe and remembered i'm still not over the wanting to work out what was wrong with the nitro engine everytime I wanted to have a go.i think brushless electric is the way forward with these without a doubt, not only faster but also dont break every 2 seconds becuase the engine needs fettling, again and again.
to be fair my nitro car was a good laugh for the first few days then it slowly became really crap.
so i took the advice of the shop and upgraded everything, this may or may not have added to the problem.
Tamiya TT01 drift car (currently in bits waiting a rebuild) thinking of turning it into a brushless car rather than a drift car. I also have a hotbodies light 10. Need a new fuel bottle as i left my old one at the woods last time and it was pritty much full, not happy.
anyone around buckinghamshire who has rc cars and wanna meet up give us a shout maybe we can have a group meet or something

id be careful with the brushless set ups, I have one in a hornet and its impossible to drive.
the thing just flips unless your really careful with the throttle and then it just wheelies
ive just got a superstock RZ motor for it instead, hopefully it will actually go rather than flip
(my brushless motor and ESC are on ebay if you want it)
edit, ohh and the F103 F1 car I posted above, i was going to put the brushless in that but i got a 10turn tamiya MS engine and ko propo programmable ESC for it instead . . . . . . .

I've never understood why people put brushless in sub standard cars.
It just makes it so undriveable.
just thought it would be funny, i was going to put it in the F103 but i guess it will be much the same even if its in a real pro quality car, too much uncontrollable power, so im selling the brushless kit as ive seen first hand it is soo much more powerful than nitro engines but think its a best mabe in a heavier 5th scale car rather than a 1/10th or at least 4wd (yuk)It just makes it so undriveable.
was funny though, must be said, but a std engined proper kit will beat it round a track.

Exactly, as in the real world a decent chassis and driver will beat pure power, hence the number of people that crash Porsches and TVRs lol
Are you inferring that tvr and Porsche don't have decent chassis?Re. Nitro engines, you shouldn't be put off them, a good quality engine well run in from new and not abused will stay reliable. I used to have a lovely Schumacher fusion 21 and it never used to get the after run oil etc. As it was run regularly but was never thrashed from cold always used decent fuel, never ran without filter and kept the engine set up correctly, I bought it used (a good few years old) and sold it after a year still running perfectly. If you buy one of these £99 specials to be honest if something doesn't fail first time out then you have done well.
My current stable is:
Mardave Meteor : Mint.
Home made buggy out of mainly Mardave bits running ESC and modified motor : Garden basher.
Tamiya Celica GR.B. : Full restoration on way to being mint.
And I'm looking for a park fly electric model but been told I have to wait to see what santa brings

mine was a 3 speed Schumacher also, and it was 100% when i sold it, just got bored of tweaking the engine all the time, lectrickery is where its at to be honest.
You maybe just had an iffy one? I do agree nothing beats the clean simplicity of electric, but the ability to spend an hour out with the car on an empty carpark on a sunday with nothing more than fuel fill ups is great!Currently I have:
Tamiya Holiday Buggy (restoration project)
Associated RC10 B4
Associated RC10 B44
Associated RC10 T3
Associated RC18T (shortly to be replaced by an FTX Blaze)
I like Associateds! All bar the Holiday Buggy and RC18T are running LiPo cells and brushless motors, the RC18T is also using LiPo, I wish they'd been around years ago, as it's so much simpler.
The T3 Truck is the only basher I have out the lot and I'm hoping to race that too, I just need to persuade enough people down the local club to dust their trucks off.

My local club is in Caldicot, but I did a couple of mid west region meetings this year before I effectively banned myself by going lipo! Was hoping to do the nationals next year, but funds aren't going to allow that
I will be doing at least one more micro national this season though.
