...starting from copies of original plans scaled down from 1:48 to whatever scale particular scale the kit will be - in Victory's case, 1:64th scale, giving a hull length of around 1 metre, and 1.6 metres when bowsprit and mizzen boom are added..
Out of interst, do you chose a scale so each ship in the series is roughly he same size or do you make them all to one scale? So for example would Victory be to the same scale as another of Nelson's ships of that era?RichB said:

I usually go for 64th scale for smaller vessels like these:And 1:72 for the larger ones, like HMS Vanguard and Bellona - these are usually no longer than 1.2 metres:
For the 'top of the range super-kits', 1:64th is good, like this Cutty Sark:
And of course, the Victory, which will be the biggest model kit of this vessel on the market when released..
This one is 1:32nd scale (and can be RC'd)

Chris, looking to buy one of these kits, is there one you recommend as a not too expensive starter kit? Was talking to my father about them and he recommended HMS Lady Nelson as a good starter. Thoughts?
Lady Nelson is a very good starter kit - not too difficult and looks quite pretty when finished. If you do, and you need help/advice just give me a shout. RichB said:
Are they supplied in up-painted form?
There are quite a few 'build logs' out there, which shows you what you get and what's involved. Lady Nelson for example:http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/2520-la...

On topic, I MUST start either my Tamiya Spitfire or Mustang and post them on here for a laugh..
The OTTO ones really are superb. I'm waiting the arrival of the E34 M5, hopefully this week and have pre-ordered the E39 M5.
The Autoart M5 was just a lucky purchase when they came out, i never thought they'd increase in value like they have!
As for the two M5'S, there dealer specials. I think there made by Schuco. I have a slight obsession with the dealer editions!
