That's a great start. a bit more simple than my many turnouts.
Wiring is alot easier when you understand the basics of it.

(If a mod could rename the thread title to Z & N it would be nice)

Flexible track and live-frog points - you're doing things properly! I've taken the easy route but I've made it more expensive by going with DCC from the start.

One more photo, you can see my planned track layout on the points control box:

I'll be switching my points by hand.
I've half made a www.scalescenes.com Portal.
The other side of it will be an engine shed built into a hill that goes under a corner shelf.
Could be a Top Secret test facility.

Gentlemen, I'm loving those shots of BR blue liveried engines and grey and blue BR passenger carriages!

So many model railway enthusiasts opt for the steam period (fair enough) but to me the late 60's/early 80's diesel electric era is far more interesting, providing a wider range of rolling stock and locomotives (including the wonderfully powerful Deltic!).

I'm unsure about Z guage but if ever I built a railway system, I would certainly plump for N guage over 00.

At the moment I'm opting for small diesel because they are cheap.
The steam prices you can understand with all the detail they have.

I'm too young to have any nostalgia for steam locos so that makes the decision easier!

I like the underground engine shed idea. I'm still deciding how to incorporate some sort of tunnel or bridge into my layout.

What's the white material that you're laying the track on?

Last week I stood in the middle of a field to get a photo of a steam engine on the mainline.

And I wrapped an old cork board I had lying around with A4 paper for now.
Need to square it up and paint it a matt black or something.

--edit--
Just put together a Peco 5 plank wagon (KNR-40).
It's so tiny laugh

--edit--
With shelf...

Purple, why not? cool I like the shelf too.

I've just ordered four of these pre-weathered wagons. Could do with another loco now.

I put an led in the front of my engine.
I've ordered some small reds so I can do the rear too.

Looks good, could you install red and white at both ends and make it directional?

My latest acquisition is a Class 24:

I will be replace the simple white one for a twin/colour led so it can change from yellow to red.
Which will need a better wiring idea.
And I'm still trying to figure out how to get fiber optic behind the motor to light the rear. there's kinda no room around it.

As a result of this thread (at least in part) I've been out and bought some timber and MDF to knock up a baseboard ready to build an N Gauge layout. All I need now is some track, power, locomotives and rolling stock...

Well, I've already bought a green Deltic from ebay. Slightly imperfect but I'm sure it can be improved.

This could get expensive...

I'll post pictures when I've got something worth showing off.

Can't wait to see what you got in mind.

Is it my imagination or are N-scale cars a little bit too small?

I dug out my old N gauge rolling stock from the loft the other day, from when I used to have a layout in the loft, my father built for me when I was 3 or 4. I'm now 26. Its been boxed up for the last 12 years or so. This thread has fired up the urge to build a layout! N gauge is so damned expensive though and having a lust for steam locomotives doesn't help. What to do?!

Need an admin to change the thread title to Model Railways.

I'm 26 too. Just take your time and save up a bit at a time. I keep trolling on ebay for cheap diesel shunters. hardly any engine is under £50.

I'm not sure if they're not true to scale but N-gauge (scale?) cars always look slightly dumpy and out of proportion to me. There don't seem to be many cars modelled in N either, OO seems much better served and I could easily be tempted to collect a number of Oxford Diecast OO scale cars (I had to buy the Ford Consul GT, for example).
