Folland Gnat T1 - Airfix (Old Tool)
Discussion
One of the best inventions in recent years (i.e. within the last 15 years or so) for the modeller. It allows the thin polystyrene cement (not glue) to be applied pretty much exactly where it is needed.
It removes the need to use the old fashioned tube cement that we all used to use. Tube cement still has its uses, but only in limited circumstances.
Humbrol and others also do their own take on the theme.

Be warned if buying Revell Conacta Professional, there are two sizes 12.5g and 25g. What might look like a bargain could turn out to be the smaller pot!
Some ebayers sell it under the guise of buy more save more, when in fact you don't save anything!
I've seen some sellers suggesting the retail is £10.99 for the 25g but I believe it is £5.99.
Plenty of suppliers sell it at just over £3 inc free p/p.
Memorybits do it at the minute for £2.99 free deliv.

That is lovely!
Perdu - totally agree, the switch to Hawks is akin to them changing from Lotus Europas to Ford Cortinas!
Not quite the same!

Love the model, but love the old Airfix plastic stand even more. A great wave of nostalgia washed over me when I saw that! I haven't seen one of those in years.
They haven't been supplied with Airfix kits for decades - bit you can buy them separately in an assortment pack these days.Eric Mc said:

Thanks for the information, just googled them to find they are part number AF1008. 1 pack ordered and now just need an Airfix kit to put on top of it. Does anybody now if the recently tooled kits still have a slot moulded in, or is out with a craft knife?Eric Mc said:
Most Airfix kits don't have the slot "pre-cut". It generally needs to be cut out. The location of where the slot needs to be cut is usually clearly marked.
Yes, I remember them being moulded on the inside and so you just opened them up if you were using the base. Just wondered if this is still the case. Looking at a number of the smaller Airfix kits not (Spitfire, Hurricane etc) its seems that the underside is usually the lower half of the wing, so not as easy as just filing a bit of the fuselages sides away if no slot was marked. Thats why I wondered if they were still there.Gassing Station | Scale Models | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
