Henry,
I took a look at the instruction sheets and steps 7 & 8 are tires, and pages 7 & 8 are engine and main "tub". Not sure about the parts you reference. Is that the part number (7 & 8)? Also in the instructions, it doesn't show such a piece on the right rear bulkhead on the back...
Not sure what you mean...
Hi just about to retire. The photos and pages i refer to are the pages on this, my GT40 build forum. This is such a cool kit, even more so that so many people are doing it at the same time! I bought this kit about a month ago thinking there wern't many out there!
Yes i "missed the bus" on my model purchased when they were unavailable. if i waited another year i could have saved over £100.00henryk001 said:

It did and I knew the meaning of "retire" as in "I am going to retire for the night!" Or "The army retired from the field!" But thanks for the email. Some of us Yanks get it!It turned very winter here so I am just doing little things like wire looms etc. I use your build as a lot of reference!

yea thats unfortunate. Earlier in the thread you offered the file for your custom decals, I'd like to take you up on that! however, I'm doing a youtube video series on this kit, would you mind If I show/use them on there?
Hi! If you click on my name it will give you the option of emailing me, please send me a email to discuss.Hi Henryk. Thanks so much for your help re the decals and overall for the quality and content of the journey of you build. If my model (Magnifier 1/12 out of the box plus KA seats) ends up half of the quality of yours I will be very happy. Just a pity that the kit does not have the spare wheel and the resin one from Renaissance does not seem to be available anywhere now).

This is a great reference, one of the things Ive heard about the MkII is that they were all slightly different, so if you're going to use this for a P/1046 (#2) build, make sure to check details between this and the restoration, but the majority of the bits should be at least similar if you're not too worried. skryll said:

Henryk posted a link to the recent P/1046 rebuild, taking it back to 1966 specification, which is a definite one to follow. The Trumpeter kit is based on the earlier (incorrect) restoration, so includes for instance the cockpit roll cage added in 1967.henryk001 said:

I will get around to the GT40, but it's going to be a while as i have a bit of a backlog at the moment.
I'm not going to be obsessive about period details though.

hi there, I know its been a while since anyones posted here, but I'd like to see how all these GT40s are doing. Ive been getting little bits and pieces done nicely , but nothing real big yet. A couple posts up robemcdonald shared a video from the Simeone Foundation Museum, a few months ago I actually got to chance to visit that museum, its in Philadelphia, a few hours from me, but well worth it, I got a bunch of cool pictures of their #8 GT40 mkII, this is their article on the car :
https://simeonemuseum.org/collection/1966-ford-gt4...
so I think I'm going to try to replicate this car instead of of the #2, since I can potentailly get reference images whenever I need, also because I think it looks great in yellow
if anyone would like some detail shots, Id be happy to share some of the ones I took when I was there. I have alot from the outside and interior, but not from the engine or under the front clip.
also, does anyone know of any good textured paint for airbrushing? I know that zeropaints has one, but that brand Is oddly hard to get where I am, Id like to use that kind of paint to imitate the texture on the dashboard, and I saw that Henryk used a sponge to create the effect, but I havent had much luck with that technique. any ideas for that?

Thanks very much for that link skryll. It looks like the Simeone Museum have done a good job in an accurate restoration of the Alan Mann Racing car. There is so much misinformation out on the internet that it’s good to find a trustworthy source. The Wikipedia pages on the Ford GT and on the 1966 Le Mans race both show pictures of inaccurate replicas portrayed as the real thing.
I look forward to seeing your completed model. Much as I like the McLaren/Amon car, it’ll be good to see something different for a change.

I think even more difficult than innacurate replicas is how there were so many versions of the car, because each car in the race was slightly different for various reasons, and also there were the MKIIB cars, (raced in 1967) which were similar, but had many details you gotta watch for in case of accuracy, I believe Ford was also required to make road legal versions, although I cant find much info on them, which would definately be considered "1966 Ford GT40 MKII's" yet are not the same as the racing ones.
the best way I can think to keep it as good of a model as possible is
A: build a specific car, such as the p1046 after its restoration or the #8 at the Simeone Museum, so you know all details you see are correct for that car
B: build a model of a replica, I know this sounds blasphemous to this thread but if you find a
detailed video series on (for example) one of the superformance gt40s, you can build your kit based on that and have it at least be accurate to something real if you dont want to fight to find all the little time-period details
or C: probably the easiest way, choose a colour scheme of one of the race cars that you dont see many pictures of, and just build it as you like, or mix any details you see, so you really dont have to worry about counting bolts as you dont have a real reference.
as for my kit, Ive tried to do a youtube series on it, but im pretty bad at it, I think Im going to try to start recording my progress through facebook posts or something like that, I'll tell you guys when I figure that out.

No, the MkIIs raced in the Prototype class and there was no requirement to make road going versions and none were made. It's possible that or two may have been bought after their racing days were over and converted for road use.The 4.7 litre MkIs were homologated as GpIV Sports cars as over the required 50 were built.
There was also the MkIII, which was a pure road going version of the MkI, with different bodywork for the nose and tail, and a more civilised cockpit.
