Happy building, collecting, hoarding everyone!

That Atlas set is awesome! Hello, internet, I'm looking for a pointy thing...
Yup - good to see PH Scale Models is still alive and well, at least with w.i.p.s and future work.

lieve it has been 9 months since I finished the red tanker !!!!
I haven’t touched any of the stash below but added a couple more ( which just got added to the pile ) , a Tamiya 1/48th Lancaster and this ....
url]|https://thumbsnap.com/CdzSRcap[/url]
Which I remember My older Brother had When We were kids.
I think it is the one I will start for My Xmas build .
Also had a random email this morning from another PH’er asking if I wanted to move on the tanker as it would make a relevant gift for a family member of his. Will have to consider that as it just sits on a shelf .
Merry Christmas for tomorrow All.
Cheers
Geoff

I can certainly add the build threads as am starting to get quite a stash of kits to do :-)

Oh and this little beauty that I picked up at a model sale at sywell airfield museum last Sunday.
It’s a re-issue of an old Revell kit from 1959. I built it not too long ago from their 1983 issue under “The History Makers” series.
I think it originally saw light an an ICBM and was then modified to a Mercury-Atlas version. The launch pad is under scale but it’s a fun model to build.

Nice. The UCS Millennium Falcon is a great looking model, but very, very fragile. We ended up getting a display case from WickedBrick for ours.

Splendid all! Well, apart from Eric...are you in panto?
Not really - only in that great "panto" known as "Self Assessment Tax Return Deadlines".
Oh no you’re not!

Do you chaps use a microscope when working on the models? The attention to detail is amazing.

Well I've managed to read all of the instructions. hehe

Impressed to see they offer both LHD and RHD build options, with appropriate number plates also (German or UK number plates, even with a choice of silver-on-black or black-on-yellow).

I've not had a chance to start building yet ... biggrin

Painted the Jerry cans and added some “wires” for the headphones that in my opinion adds quite a lot to the overall model.

Me too. My eyesight has never been great but about 20 years ago I found that ordinary spectacles were no longer sufficient.

I use a variation of this -

That is probably the exact model I use..

Still battling with the Spitfire. The most critical things to get right on the build of a model are transparent parts and surface detail. This thing needs extensive corrections in both departments. I must have fitted this vacform canopy 10 times, and the amount of blending it in and re-instating surrounding panel lines has been the casue of the massive delay - I just can't be bothered with it:

Anyway, this morning, I think the latest guide coat showed I can't get it much better:

So when that's dried I'll get on with masking the wheel wells and radiators, then paint the undersides.

Thanks GG!

I had that CRX kit when I was about 14, so maybe Christmas 1984? Got hastily put together complete with brush-painted red Humbrol enamel, and matt light grey on the lower portion. Still have it in the parts box, probably a bit too far gone for restoration but I do have another fresh one in the stash.

Got this 280ZX under tree this year:

Already have the T-top version (x2) but couldn't resist this fixed-head issue. Probably one of the earliest 1:24 Tamiya kits to have some engine detail?

Anyway, back to the Christmas build. Will post a photo or two later, but have made a start on the interior of my Hiace WIP. Lots of brown and beige....

Mofified the pitot tube with brass for a bit more fidelity:

I think that IFF rod antenna can be binned as well looking at the picture.

Then masked the u/c wells and covers with blu-tack:

Put a coat of Medium Sea Grey on the undersides, and it showed a couple of flaws, so I'll correct those tomorrow when it's fully dry.

As predicted, I messed up the first paint application, streaks and runs everywhere, thankfully it all came off with fine grit paper, take II underway….

Indispensable for me:

As I didn't find the light beneficial taking the battery weight out prevents them sliding down my nose. So easy to pop on and off, see under, essential! And fancii!

Box states copywrite 1983 so you're bang on Spotted! My story is very similar; entirely brush painted, Humbrol enamels and the silver being Tamiya, the clear "varnish" over it probably Humbrol and now very yellow.
Ebay kit was missing it's baseplate, one wheel and decals but I've got enough across both to complete it:

Body tooling is magnificent! All one piece, bumpers integral. Back in the day many a car bumper was wonky from my impatience to marry with baseplates before the glue had dried...

I'd obviously played with colours out of sight. Brushing Tamiya stuff has never worked for me to this day, the met blue here probably my first foray:

There was blue under the Tamiya semi gloss black but the Halfords sgb sprayed very well after a quick pad over:

On the scrapping of the original I'd "reclaimed" many parts to store for future projects including the exhaust, which necessitated ripping off the rear axle beam which the pipe passes over. But I've got a brand new one, and exhaust, to fit, which is nice.
I'd brushed the original exhaust but always spray with Tamiya cans now, usually going to the bother of masking and wafting cats and collectors a subtle titanium silver. As can be seen in the pic, almost impossible to tell and quite a waste of time! Drilled the ends out though

So new interior, dash and seats are a Tamiya military blue, body has had it's mould lines sanded away, pad over, primer and first guide Tamiya rattle blue metallic. Wonder if I should have replicated my made-up white blue red scheme instead....

Waffle over, no more typing the word Tamiya...d'oh!

Looking forward to seeing progresseseses!
