That’s a great selection! Definitely interested in the Golf.

Are the Escort stickers from Screenprintdigital?

Is the Jurassic Park jeep r/c? It looks great!

The Peugeot is a great one to drive.

Anyone got a DF03? I keep up meaning to get a brushless setup for my DT03 that I built at Xmas, but figure it may be a bit of a waste in a 2wd buggy. I fancy something that's genuinely quick without spending megamoney. Is 50-60mph possible/safe with a DF03? Would I need to go Lipo, or is it doable with NiMh? I've never run Lipos and a big worried about the care of them when leaving them. I tend to have bursts of using the rc cars, then for no reason leave them on the shelf for a couple of months with no use. Would that kill them?

You can leave a lipo in storage charge mode if you have a decent charger. Lipo is the way to go to get the best out of brushless. I expect 50mph is easy with the right gearing. I had this in a Tamiya escort Cosworth and it was pretty mental.

Lipos are fine being stored - just make sure they are at storage voltage (3.8v per cell), any decent lipo charger can do this.

If stored charged, they degrade quicker, and also if there was an issue with them, are a fire risk. At 3.8v you would get a lot of smoke, but no flames.

As long as there is no physically damage (eg from impact) they are low risk. I charge in a proper fireproof battery box (lipo bags are a waste of time) and only charge before I use them. I have some that are 5 years old and though a bit tired now, are still usable.

I had the Escort Cosworth in the early 90s when I was about 12-13.

I couldn't resist picking up this in January:

Good fun building it and thrashing it in the woods and beach. I've just ordered the sport tuned motor. Any other recommended 'hop ups' for the Hornet?

Lipo batteries, charger and maybe a new esc - slightly more oomph, longer run times - could even go brushless..

Ball bearings instead of the bushings

I had a hornet in the 80’s - fully upgraded with aftermarket coil overs and ball bearings. I mostly smashed bumpers in a regular basis. Then I cracked the front suspension towers frown

Loved that car.

I bought one of the rereleased Hornet about 6 years ago. Now smashed to pieces obviously biggrin

Tuned motor, metal shocks and bearings, ribbed rear tyres, s/s screw kit (which is a really nice cheap hop up), different coloured aerials and clips.

I seem to recall that there's a mod for the rear suspension as well (like an extra damper in the middle) but the mists of time means I can no longer remember.

Kept burning out the esc's.

Nice, where did you get the metal shocks from? The standard ones are carp.

I failed to pick up the Mk2 Escort when they were available earlier in the year (too much prevarication as to whether it was a frivolous waste of money!), and then thought I’d missed the boat. Now I see they are available again, so back to prevaricating!

Interested in what those who got one have to say about them? I had a Schumacher Club10 Cougar back in the mid 90’s but that’s the extent of my RC experience…

Well a while back I was pondering buying a DF03 Dark Impact kit, and last week I finally bit the bullet and ordered one, along with all the recommended reliability upgrades courtesy of the guys over on TamiyaClub. I also ordered a 4kv brushless combo for it, along with 2 2s lipos, 1 3s lipo and a Gens Ace lipo charger with all the different charge and storage mode stuff.

Before all that even came, it fueled a bit of interest to get my DT03 and old TL01 (that I have hastily converted to rally and added an 80t motor for as a nice slow learner car for my 5 yr old) out and go down the beach car park where there are little mounds and lumps and bumps. We had great fun, and at one point when my boy had a go of the DT, my wife had a go of the TL and actually enjoyed it. Not one to miss and opportunity for more RCs, I suggested that maybe we get something that can be 'hers'. I went through a couple of options form Rising Fighters, through to basic crawlers, but then followed my nostalgic heart and went for something that I wanted nearly 30 yrs ago looking up at on the shelves of my local model shop. A Lunchbox!

That body isn't going out bashing though! I've also got a clear lexan replica body that I'm going to paint pink for her, and I've even got some replica stickers in pink that have been customised to change "Vanessas Lunchbox" to "Carlys Lunchbox". I'll post pics when I get it painted. I built the truck over the weekend, now just need to put a couple of evening asside to build the DF03. I'm looking forward to seeing what its like with the brushless and 3s! I got a bit impatiant and threw the brushless combo temporarily in the DT, and OMG its mental. It was too quick in the back lane on 2s, with 3s it was trying to do backflips. So I tried it in an old TT01 chassis I have, and at much more than 35 it tries to spit itself into the scenary and rips its tyres off! Now I'm addicted, and already considering getting a brushless combo for the TT01 to try and do some proper speed runs, but I really must hold off from doing anymore to the DT03 so my boy can use it when he outgrows the TL01.

Little update to my Lunchbox above. I painted and stickered the spare body for my wife to use tonight. The masking of the bumpers was a bit of a pain, and I experimented using a translucent pink backed with silver. It was tricky to get the pink nice and even and I had a couple of spitty bits, but with the stickers on its not too noticable. It is only going to be a bashing body so it doesn't need to be perfect. I'm going to give shoe gooing and meshing the inside a go and hopefully it should put up with a good few roll overs.

I’ve got an old original Monster Beetle Tamyia.

Last time I used it was probably early 1990’s - it’s got a smashed wheel and maybe one of the body towhees that you clip the body onto the chassis is knocked off. How easy is it to fix / is it worth fixing?

All the parts are available, would suggest fixable for not much more than a tenner. New battery, ESC, radio probably worthwhile if it still has the old analogue speed controller.

Hello all. Would anyone be able to give me a rough estimate of what this Tamiya Lotus kit might be worth? It’s been in the loft for ages after I bought it from the Hethel shop when it closed down!

I buy a few non-RC Tamiya kits but have no idea on value for this kind of thing. Looked on eBay and couldn’t see anything the same.

I assume everything’s in there as it’s barely been opened.

Cheers

^ That is probably quite rare, it’s model #84287, normal Tamiya r/c kit part numbers start “58” whereas “84” indicates limited release. None on the Bay at the moment, none on TamiyaClub, but a couple of sold items from Japan show a price of around £270…
