Hi guys, I've now finished 42009!! Was a very nice model to build but I did have to strip and reassemble a large section of the chassis due to somehow leaving out a big support beam (god knows how!) and also installing a small bevel gear wrong causing a rotation mismatch between the front and rear outriggers. Otherwise it went together very nicely and all PF elements work perfectly with no binding.
I tested the crane by using it to lift my mining truck which it managed without a fuss and much to the amusement of my fiancée! I've ordered a few extra bits to super-detail a few areas which should be here soon. Btw, does anybody know if there are any figures I can buy of the right size that will sit in the cabins?

Hi Russ, I got your 20% email as well I'm after the 42009 crane and it's available at a few places this weekend for £110 but not on your website at all. Just wanted to check before I oreder it that you've not got any in stock as I'd rather give you the business if possible?
Sorry all out of stock until mid April im afraid. Anyone had any trouble building the Le Mans racer?
I have spent the last 2 hours trying to work out how the rear engine cover will sit flush with the rest of the body.
Simply can't get the engine cover to match up with the roof line.
No matter what I do I can't work it out & it is annoying the crap out of me.
I'm clearly doing some thing wrong however I just can't see what it is.
Grrrrrrrrrr.
The problem appears to be the white bar installed on page 148.
With it in place the cover doesn't line up - with it removed it is a perfect fit.
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Yes please.
It is built now with the exception of this one piece. I cannot understand what I have done wrong as everything fits perfectly until the beam is put into place.
The offending beam is in front of the car.
Incidentally. I built mine with just the race numbers - no 'sponsors logo's' as I think that the ones supplied look a little bit naff!!
It looks better i think-:

That looks like the beam which attaches to the mechanism for opening the rear canopy - is it simply that you hadn't wound the mechanism down?
I dismantled my Le Mans car at the weekend. It's a pig to take apart; studless Technic is so tightly constructed and pinned in different directions at every corner but this was the most awkward I've yet found.

It winds down not so far & then the white beam stops the engine cover from going down into its fully closed position.
Up to the point at which the beam is installed the cover drops perfectly. With the beam in place it won't close.
I will it it back together & try to take a photo at the point where it won't go down any further.

Photo isn't very clear however here goes.
The best way I can describe it is that when the engine cover is lowered using the cog on the right hand of the car it drops until the black cross beams built in section 152, page 211, are stopped from dropping all the way down by the white beam mentioned earlier.
I have rebuilt the whole of the back end of the car from section 148 page 203 to the end of the build on four occasions & each time I hit the same problem.
I have no idea what I have done wrong & it is now starting to annoy me.
A lot!!!!!!

There's too much of a gap between the top of the rear canopy and the back of the cabin - they should abut directly. That's presumably because your canopy hinges are too far back.
ETA: I can see the mistake which causes that now - the white beams which are pinned together to form the horizontal of the canopy are not in the right place relative to each other - see steps 150 and 151. Not sure that would solve your original problem but it might, because the lifting mechanism would connect in the correct place when you fix it.

Thank you Podie.
I have been up since 7am, rebuilt the whole of the back end twice & I still get exactly the same result - as per photo below.
Every time I lower the engine cover this happens;

The black cross beams which were installed in section 152 page 213 are stopped from going any lower by the white which was installed in section 148 page 203.
It looks exactly the same as the installation in Podie's kit apart from the fact that mine will not close!!
Clearly I have done something wrong however I can't work out what it is!

I'll try again to explain my post from this morning, with pictures - but your rear canopy is assembled wrongly. Look at the pics below - in the pic of your car I've circled the top of the canopy, which should be much closer to the rear of the cabin. I've also circled where there are two pins in adjacent holes, whereas there should be an empty hole between then - see second pic, of step 151. You've either mounted the structure created in step 149 a hole too far back, or you've constructed that structure wrongly with the angled white beams pinned to the wrong hole.
