That's absolutely spot-on.

Engine cover join is now pretty much there, so next up will be the airframe assembly. Hopefully it will be Spitfire shaped pretty soon...

Got the wings together - fuselage re-scribing is still frustrating me with work and re-work:

Wing fit is poor, but I guess some filing and scraping will sort it eventually:

Pretty much finished refining the nose detail. I ended up drilling the small hole and putting some plastic rod in it to form a slight recess. The larger oil filter access hole was scribed using a template. Still all needs a bit of final flatting to remove some of the primer build-up. It all took four attempts. For me, this is the worst part of trying to bring poor quality kits up to scratch:

Now to do battle fitting the wing.

After removing a ton of plastic to get the wing to fit without huge steps at the root fillets, I clamped in place and dotted some cement in the gereral direction of the gaps:

This was a mistake, becasue it made the dihedral too large, and asymmetric, with the port wing-tip way too high.

So I had to slice the glue line and prize the joint apart, add a plastic shim, and re-join, this time with a load of dissolved sprue in an attempt at reinforcement (and to fill the gaps that will need re-scribing. Deep joy.

My goodness, so much work for something so small!

You're not alone in persevering with your Christmas build, my 1/43 Heller Alpine A310 is nearly there. All my time on it seems to consist of trimming things back so painted and assembled components fit together reasonably well. Perhaps my bodyshell is more warped than just having some roof damage, or maybe that's just how it is. Had to slie a lot off the front edge of the dashboard where it met the windscreen, now I'm moving the rear axle forwards slightly.

Might get it finished today, or one day soon....
Yep, but at least there’s progress (even though everything g should have been completed during the holidays!

Flatted back the sprue filler:

Not bad on the port side:

But the other side left a groove for some reason:

so I've use Surfacer 1000 for that:

The Spitfire has a subtle anhedral/dihedral feature at the rear wing root, which has been partially lost in assembly and filling. It's taken a while, but it's getting there:

Fun isn't it?! Show us your next one!

When I can get the primer and paint off this I'll get back to it(and the accompanying submarine/ destroyer).
Meanwhile......

Both started long before that car turned up. Mind you there are several others in progress that aren't even on the desk!
All looks very productive!

What scale is the truck? Looks bigger than 1:76, but I’m sure I had one of those platform trolleys in the background - mine was green, Hornby IIRC?

So, i managed to finish this " Christmas build "
Please forgive the decals they are a mixture of ones that survived and some i found in my bits box. |https://thumbsnap.com/dD5MvZx7[/url]

Looks fine, and well done for completing it, but how come you didn't just get some more decals?

(those are out of stock, but I guess others are available - might even get some spares from Hasegawa?)

After much re-scribing and re-re-scribing, and filling, and re-filling:

I'm ready to fit the tailplanes and rudder. Here it is next to a Mk1 I'm building (which is at a similar stage of build):

Interesting to see the increased size of the tail surfaces between the Mk1 and the Mk22, in line with the extra power and torque of the Griffon engine:

Good to see you're persevering with it.

Finally got mine finished this morning:

Seen here in the company of a 1:55 Majorette I picked up at a recent toy fair, by coincidence. I also have the Airfix 1:24 version to build at some point (not a great kit, originally by Grip then later reboxed by Heller).

Certainly not one of my best builds. The roof was damaged and my modest attempt to rectify it didn't work. There was no positive attachment between floorpan and bodyshell, so I used superglue which of course fogged the glass slightly.

That being said it was good just to keep building something and useful to try the Gundam chrome marker, I'd say that worked well - not a replacement for BMF, but it definitely has its uses. The bronze paint and Halfords clearcoat worked out well, giving a decent shine without being polished. The elderly decals just about worked (one of the plates split in half) and overall it looks decent in the cabinet, along with the 1:43 Princess I buil several years ago.

Heller seem to be on good form at present and I'll look out for others in the 1:43 range and maybe the odd 1:24 when I visit France this summer.
Good result - objective achieved: One less in the stash! Well done.

Small progress - got the supercharger intake on. Even that had significant gaps either side of it which needed filling and radiussing with Milliput:

This one may take a bit longer
Cheers for now

Excellent work. Why not start a build thread for the new one? There aren't too many actual build threads on here these days.

Cant believe this was supposed to be a Christmas build, but anyway, now got the radiator housings fitted and filled:

Now for the canopy, but before that, I need to figure out the gunsight. This amorphous blob is what's in the kit (unless I've misunderstood the instructions):

It's so badly moulded I honestly don't know how it's supposed to fit. I'll end up making another I guess.

The windscreen was too narrow for the fuselage, but the canopy was OK.

I sprang the canopy together slightly using masking tape:

Then put the windscreen and canopy in place over the cockpit to get aignment correct, before wicking some liquid cement into the joint:

Once it set overnight, I removed the tape and the canopy pulled the windscreen out, so now it's a better fit.

Cobbled together a gunsight from scrap plastic and acetate:

And got the canopy fitted:

Dare I suggest another seasonally focussed companion bulid off? Seems the Spitfire has finally been beaten, time for another?
There are some loose ends carrying over from last year's!
That was a different Spitfire (and it's not quite finished!). Last year's Christmas build is still underway. I removed and re-fitted various combinations of canopies until I ended up with the least worst option (Rob Taurus vacform), and only yesterday fitted the cannon fairings (which I strengthened with plastic rod:

...then broke one off while sanding the joints. So, like the rest of the model - that worked really well.

Would be nice to get it finished this holiday though; there's something nostalgic about an Airfix Spitfire at Christmas...
