The donations keep on coming - "Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg" have sent £5,000
Total now just over £75,000
Been there a few times - that’s fantastic.Total now just over £75,000
I think the money donated is as much about decent people expressing disgust at the situation as much as trying to replace models. There’s something about model railways and their owners that is just ‘nice’, and the contrast with this horrible act against them and the scum that did it couldn’t be greater.

Basically sit down in a room with some youth workers and "discuss" the offence and how it made the victim feel. Then they will make some suggestions to prevent re-offending.
Usually ends in the offender writing a letter of apology.
Normally they may have to do some tasks too, such as picking litter at school or doing some extra education. If its been drink or drugs they might have to take a course on addiction, for example. Of course the tax payer will cover the cost..
All told, they might lose a few days out of their life over the course of a year.
Pathetic.

What do you think should the sentence be then?
I think they should be made attend the model railway club for six months running helping with the layouts and operations - whether they want to or not.
Sounds good in theory but all you would end up with is a rude lazy scrote doing his very best to not be the least bit helpful. How do they have good futures if they have no problem destroying people's prides and joy and money?
Maybe the judge will never be affected by these sts, with his privileged life but loads of normal hardworking people will.
At least bloody tag them for a year with an early curfew to cause them some st for a bit.
Maybe one day someone will kick their back doors in and destroy their houses.

You may get that - but then again, you may not. I'd give it a go and if some or all of them were uncooperative, I'd hand the miscreants back to the court for an alternative sentence. If a group of s like that all end up having good futures, Brexit will have been a massive success after all.
Divide the £30k of damage between them, compensate the club and make them do full time community service until it’s paid back to the taxpayer in full. Then stick them back into the education system where they left it and give them a choice between relevant qualifications or prison at the end of it.
Little tts.

I understand they are minors - so actions are limited.
But the compensation amounts they have to pay is a joke... the full monetary value (and extra for compensation) should be paid by them. Even if it was like a Uni loan, i.e pay when earning X.
The punishment they've received will be easily forgotten - I'd want the gits to be making payments for the next 10yrs so they can remember what grief they caused.
I have a friend who was caught drink driving and it's a similar story, after 1/2 yeas of expensive insurance premiums their rates went pretty much back to normal. I expected them to face a hefty additional premium every year, as a gentle reminder of what a douche they once were!!!

I don't think it would make a positive difference. Yes it would bloody hurt but the main impact of the birch was social embarrassment in an era when it actually mattered to feel shame. That's long gone. You'd be left with angry lads wanting to get revenge and being cowards they'd go for an easy target. This is going to be unpopular, but I think rehabilitation is going to be a lot more worthwhile than giving them the birch etc...
We’ve all done stupid stuff. Whilst I’d like to think I’d never have been quite so stupid...
I’d prefer to see the culprits reformed into useful members of society.

I've never done anything anywhere as stupid, selfish, nasty, spiteful and vindictive as what they did. We’ve all done stupid stuff. Whilst I’d like to think I’d never have been quite so stupid...

I'm not interested in rehabilitation. They had their chance. They should now be in prison.
Prison works, because while inside they can't do this sort of again.

Fortunately we don’t send kids to prison in this country. I wonder how many people sent to prison for a misdemeanour have gone in as delinquents and come out as criminals?I'm not interested in rehabilitation. They had their chance. They should now be in prison.

What they did was awful, but at the end of the day no one was hurt (physically at least). The club has been supported by many patrons (myself included) so the financial impact simply isn’t there.
Only time has been lost. Yes it’s the most precious commodity, but everything can be rebuilt.
