This MOC video appeared as a suggestion on youtube and has possibly encouraged me to "invest" in one of the larger technic sets again...

[quote=fatboy69]Bought these today.
So. The Ocean Explorer........
Dull build so far with very little in the of interest or excitement. I built the helicopter, the mini sub & the hull of the boat in around 3 hours.
Not sure why it is out in the Technic range due to the lack of anything technical!!!
And it has one (five actually) things that really are annoying.
Wheels.
It's a boat so it sits on & is steered by wheels.
Why?????
They will be taken off tomorrow.

The more I look at it the more I dislike it.
Bearing in mind that Lego produce boats for £10/15 that float I don't understand how or why they made something like the Ocean Explorer that doesn't float & is only moveable if you push it along on its wheels!
Utterly stupid IMO.
Why not mount it on a plinth like the container ship?
Could & should have been so much better.
Whether I will change my mind once the build is complete I very much doubt.
It will probably end up hidden away rather like the hateful R2D2.

Lego Technic water-going vessels have always had wheels rather than floating. It's fairly obvious from the hole-filled beams they'd never actually float. Examples are 8839 supply ship, 8824 hovercraft.
After your R2D2 moans I'm surprised you've bothered to buy any more Lego. It's quite amazing what trauma you put yourself through

This is the first technic ship I have bought as i didn't get around to buying the Maersk freighter & seeing how much those are selling for I doubt I will add that one to my collection. After your R2D2 moans I'm surprised you've bothered to buy any more Lego. I knew the Ocean Explorer didnt float because it says so on the box - I didn't realise until I started the build that it was on wheels & I just think it is odd that it isn't mounted on a plinth like the Maersk.
If it was on a plinth it would look so much better.
I think that the completed Ocean Explorer might possibly grow on me once the decking has gone on to the hull. - the wheels will be coming off this weekend so that's a good place to start!
Always hated R2D2. It just annoys me.
The only trauma I get from Lego is hiding the newly bought kits from SWMBO along with hoping she doesn't find the new additions. And bearing in mind I have just bought three more from Asda I dont think it be long before she spot's the ever growing pile of Technic boxes in the spare bedroom!!!!!
