By the way, regarding the outriggers not working when you manually turn the input drive - they are very low geared so it would take a lot of turns to get them to start moving.

That’s about all I can offer, but hope you sort it - it’s a great model IMHO.
I had that exact problem - front went up, rears went down... I'm not sure where it was in the build, but this is from where the problem sat with some photos - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Can you remember at what stage of the build you can check that the outriggers work?

Just looking at the manual now - pages 275-370 are the outriggers, front and rear, and I guess they can be moved manually to check at this final point. It was my engine side outriggers that had the misplaced cog, I think from either step 280 or 330.

Beyond this, there are a lot more parts to be fitted, and then removed to be able to rectify..

I've also just found the final bag of bits to build the grey building - I never finished that part.
Woohoo - unexpected Lego time after dinner!

Step 703.

That all looks right, assuming there's a small gear down where the circle is, meshing with the arrowed dark grey gear:

Assuming that's there, you've now got to check that the assembley containing the 6 red gears and their three clutches is correct, and that step 703 fits to it correctly.

Re. the outriggers - you should be able to check them as I said before: put an axle down the centre of the large slew bearing in the lower chassis, make sure the outrigger control lever on the side is set to either up, or down, and turn the shaft like mad. If it gets hard to turn, switch the control lever to the opposite direction and try again. Something should happen, but as I said it's a low geared mechanism, so you'll need a lot of turns before anything happens.

Thank you.

I’ll have a look at the highlighted piece in the morning & I will see if I can get the outriggers too work.

This is mine - the red plug jutting out on the bottom look as though it should have something, a cog maybe, attached too it however I can’t see anything in the instructions that goes on.

At step 697 it gets hemmed in by the black cross member & it shows the red plug with nothing attached.

Rough terrain crane is a fantastic build.

I've not built anything big since I did the recovery truck during first lockdown.

I've forgotten how 'clever' lego is and the way it all goes together.

Only completed bag one last night, took a good couple of hours alongside some TV.

Sadly one piece missing - a red L shaped one, definitely not missed as I only have a few stages left, i'll have to open another bag to 'borrow' one in the hope that I don't find myself one short at the end.

What you've got is correct - a red axle sticking out of a white collar, with nothing on the red stub. Mine's like that.

Had this built awhile now,so decided to dismantle it last night...

Still took a couple of hours but I quite enjoyed it.....

All now carefully pack and boxed as new....

Christ, you're not wrong. What's the major appeal with that one - just rarity?

It's essentally the same underneath as the 9398 Crawler, but with a different body and limited to 20,000 examples.

20,000 is limited!?! Reminds me of when my in-laws came home with their new car, a Nissan Blandohatch and decreed it was a Limited Edition (as it had had a pin stripe, different wheels, badge on the back, etc.), my wife asked them: "What does Limited Edition mean to Nissan, they only make a million of them?" rofl

Couldn't agree more, and some people are asking £600 for them years later!

Rough terrain crane rebuild done.

And it all works!!! Including the outriggers.

It’s a big kit & probably my favourite build so far.

The outriggers are dropped there...

Does the upper part slew around 360 OK?

I realised that I hadn’t flicked the switch over for the riggers. The upper part does a full 360 with ease.

All good now - thank you for your help earlier.

No worries.

So it all works now?
