Nice little parcel arrived today

I recently built the Lunchbox's twin - Midnight Pumpkin.

Enjoyed it so much and was so impressed with the end product that i bought a hornet. Just need to spray the shell for that. Will try and get pics up when that's done.

I got bought this at Christmas (http://www.modelsport.co.uk/ftx-vantage-1-10-4wd-brushed-buggy-rtr/rc-car-products/40387), but was disappointed in it. The battery lasted only a few minutes and the car had a mind of its own.

So, after 4 months of it being in the cupboard, I received these yesterday:

The car comes with one of those silly controllers with a turn wheel, don't get on with them.

Battery fully charged (I think) and I'm off to play with it tonight. Looking forward to it. I've read reviews of people getting 40+ minutes out of the battery.

Blade, what MAH did you go for on the battery? Mine is 4300 and cost £22.

The stampede is 8.4v 5300mah (voltz battery)
The Lunchbox is 7.2v 4300mah (same make of battery as yours)
The CEN 4x4 is NITRO
biggrin

WHAT charger are you using?

standard charger, some generic thing that the car came with, do I need a fancie one?

Got about 10 minutes use out of it yesterday before it lost signal and slammed in to a wall, chassis cracked across the width, looks like its a separate bit for the front geo, so hopefully a cheap part.

I must get about 5 meters range before it starts doing stuff on its own, can't be right.

Doesn't sound like an issue with the R/C car battery, sounds more like a issue with the Transmitter or receiver...but it is odd as if you loose signal the car should just stop dead via the failsafe in the receiver.

No you don't need a fancy charger, this is the new one that came with Lunchbox , it is £20 brand new:
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/fusion-vector-nx85-del...

It is very good, I've already used it to charge the Traxxas battery pcks (It comes with a few different charge leads) a couple of time, getting great run times from the 8.4v 5300Mah (And the 8.4v 5000Mah too) in the Stampede, can't comment on the 7.2v 4300Mah in the LunchBox as MissB is yet to start on the build (She will be starting the build later on).

Mine is just a small plug transformer. It works, I see no need to spend £20 on a new one.

Here's the damage!

I didn't mean to be rude, just don't see the point! I've got no light, so no idea. It was on charge for 8 hours before I used it yesterday, was fine for the 10-15 minutes I got out of it.

From rereading your post it sounds like the receiver (or something) was not right from the start

Did you not contact modelsport about it back then? To me it sounds like the receiver isn't doing what it should, either that or you are getting interference if it is a 27mhz.
Am i right in saying it is a 27mhz system? not a newer 24mhz one?

The OEM overnight chargers are not much cop, hence I use a proper pulse peak type charger, also it can be used as a trickle charger or a fast charger with full control over how much charge it gives the battery.

Yes, I did ad was told to reset the ESC, which you can't do according to the manual. It's 27mhz, but you'd expect better range than 5 meters! It does cut the power but obviously I'm still on it, back off but it's too late and bam. It was on the run up to the jump I'd just made too frown

It'll have to go to the manufactures now probably.

Tyres and foam inserts fitted.

Coming along.

Gearbox and drive unit is together as well.

She is doing great, not a single overtightened thread or rounded off screw head....she's a hustler, I'm sure she knows what she's doing.
