Only wish I had the skill.
Soon, It’s very fiddly connecting all of the lights, and I’ve got to remove the cab to fit the main bodywork.
So as soon as that’s done it will be all finished. This will within the next week.
I’ve now cut down a trailer after lots of head scratching.
I wanted it to sit level with or just above the cab, and not have a big gap underneath with most peoples have.
It’s near perfect now, a couple of mm of shims will have it level at the top with the cab. This photo angle makes it look worse than it is.
The bigger issue will be making the trailer match.
The body of the truck is now approx 10mm lower than it would sit on the trailer. Some would live with it, but I know it will annoy me!
I’m thinking the easiest option will be to notch the trailer floor and drop the whole lot down over the chassis
So as soon as that’s done it will be all finished. This will within the next week.

I managed to source a well built custom dolly cheaper than I could have built one finding the parts myself, just need to colour code it.
I got rather anal about having the trailer roof sit level with the truck.
The problem is the Tamiya reefer trailer chassis is crap, the way they designed it makes it sit really high.
I’ve got the body sat low on my truck because it’s obvious using the truck chassis rails rather than the much taller chassis.
I was toying with notching the floor of the body to drop it down lower, but that would have been a lot of work and made the floor unusable.
I then had a brainwave, to build a new trailer chassis using the same truck chassis rails and suspension, so it will now sit perfectly level with the truck.
I’ve never seen anyone do that, the trailer will look so much better!
The only decision now is how to mount the trailer to the dolly.
If I use the normal 5th wheel it makes the trailer sit 1cm high at the front.
If it’s too noticeable I could remove the 5th wheel and use a free spinning nut and bolt instead and mount it permanently. The bonus of that will be not needing any trailer legs, which will make it look cleaner.
Plus I can then move the king pin back further to reduce the gap between truck and trailer. The original position is also another bad design by Tamiya, but again, probably done to avoid the truck hitting the legs. The whole this is out of proportion!
Anyway, it will end up 1 inch short of 6 feet.
The last choice is to have the trailer twin or tri axle.
I’m tempted to go double at the moment.

I’ve been busy trying to find a decent way to continue the stripes on the trailers, after many many variations I’ve decided on this one.

I think I’ve got a 2nd trailer sourced for a decent price, once I get that I can bolt the new chassis on and then get the stickers on, which are being made now.
The paint is frustrating me, I’ve got 8 wheels to do and various bits of the trailer chassis, but I can’t do any until Halfords reopens!
