Brush painted? Very good finish if so.
Yes, with a very small brush. hehe

However, the camera flatters the finish.

It is, though, true to the original it is emulating. biggrin
I don't do much brush painting, but apparently flat brushes used in conjunction with thinned paint layers are very good.

Added some weathering, the main u/c legs, and the tailwheel door this morning:

I’m using Tamiya lacquer thinners for Tamiya XF- paints. For airbrushing, it’s much better at stopping tip-drying and spattering. I guess it might be also good for brush painting if it improves flow.

Excellent work. In the right setting it’s one of those models that would look real.

Got the u/c doors on last night. I assume on the real thing that the scissor links and tyres would fit behind the doors once the legs are unloaded:

Nice work on the Land Rover!

Didn't manage to finish my Hiace last weekend, but with a bit of fiddling about in the evenings this week I should be ready for final asembly on Sat/Sun. Current state of play:

This is pretty much everything, with some extra parts from a Fujimi accessory pack and the dinghy from an AMT Hilux.

The Hiace kit had a 1/24 RC helicopter!

Opening side and rear door aren't properly fitted yet, so please excuse any misalignment. It's gone together nicely, most of it fitted together pretty much OOB. I just have a little touch of work to do on the front suspension, getting it a bit lower. Back end has already come down as much as it can.

Looks great - very well finished, and plenty of interesting details to draw you in to look closer - just as it should be.

Bit more progress, hopefully finished this weekend.

I removed the canopy masking, and to my surprise the rather soft Vacform framing looks much sharper than I thought it would. Still needs a cocktail stick around the panels, but OK. A bit of detail around the windscreen/fuselage got flatted and blended away, but nothing terrible. Added the final decals - the yellow cut lines around the canopy:

Then the brass cannon ends:

And the signalling lamps:

So next it’s adding a few hydraulic lines & heating tubes to the u/c bays, sand the tyres flat on a surface plate, and add some subtle weathering. Then press the propeller into place snd it’ll be done.

Amazing work.

In the meanwhile disaster struck overhere. My wife decided to have the hobby/ general purpose room wall painted. In cleaning up my stuff I lost both Lotus 7 windscreen brackets, or stanchions or whatever you call them. I will have to change the initial plan to using the kit aeroscreens instead, which is a bit of a shame because the windscreen is so typical to the 7. I will partly have to dismantle the car because the aeroscreens need additional drilling for fixing holes. And re-spray the body. Oh well.
If you go on a model forum like Britmodeller or All Scale Modeller (or preferably a car-specific forum), there’s a good chance someone will give you a spare one. Especially since there are two windscreen options for your kit.

Final things to do were-

Add some notional pipework and heating tubes to tbe u/c bays:

Whip aerial from stretched sprue:

Masked the wingtip light covers, and sprayed clear red and green direct onto the wings:

Dotted PVA on the tail light:

Made some shell case deflectors too:

And finally…pushed the propeller into place:

I’ll get some completed photos at some point and that will be that.

Great to see the variety and quality of finished builds!

Nearly three years after starting it I finally got the Hiace off the bench this morning and outside for some photos:

Sold new in the UK by Park Toys (Chorley area?) for £7.99.

Painted Austin-Rover sandalwood beige (from a Halford aerosol).

Very nice work. Looks like today is the day for completing long-term projects!

Well done Doc.
Threw that one together quickly didn't you.
Still got two long-termers on the bench. Not starting anything else until they're done. Lesson learned.
