Water 'splats' from airbrush/compressor?

Yesterday I was spraying in the garage and some water splats came out of the airbrush......there was a slight bit of condensation in the water trap on the compressor but nothing major. I was wondering why....it spoilt the item I was spraying.

I turned the pressure down a bit and it seemed to ease the problem. Was it purely down to temperature (it was bloddy cold)?
