On a track day at Brands Hatch, the only car I couldn't overtake was a Megan 225. My car was faster than a Lotus Elise, 2 x Cooper S, a clutch of Max Power type Jap cars, Ford Focus ST, Fiesta ST, a 1990 Carerra, an air cooled 911, Clio 182, and a couple of BMW's plus some Alfa's etc

Why ? My point is quite obvious in that it is an amazing car on track. It's never going to beat the likes of a Noble or Nissan GTR etc etc. but it is quite outstanding. There I was thinking I was discussing things with adults but how wrong am I. I'm not bragging about my wonderful driving skills as you obviously seem to think, I'm just telling you how it is. It's a great car.

The implication was it's a much faster track car than stuff like a Lotus Elise, Focus ST etc which of course it's not.

The embarrassing aspect is the lack of understanding about other cars true capabilities and that sort of pumped up owner's boasting.

It's a very easy car to drive quickly and to it's limits. The others that the chap had overtaken may be 'faster track cars' but also are harder to drive, so ultimately in the hands of amateurs, slower.

A Focus ST is not faster than a Clio 200 round a track. Look at the Autosport Video of a 200 keeping up with an RS Focus with 300 BHP !

Three years ago I owned an Elise 111s and I can drive my Clio quicker than My Elise.

Does your Clio 200 drive slower than your Elise ? Or would I be right in suggesting you own neither or indeed have never done a track day driving both cars back to back.

I loved my Elise as I do my Clio but the Elise suffered from understeer somewhat (they all do) on the limit and the Clio simply does not.. I have owned many cars in 30 years driving and obviously compare one against the other so don't tell me its embarrassing due to lack of understanding etc etc and grow up, read the thread properly and you will realise its not owners boasting, it's a point about how well the car performed.

Yep, the usual car v driver debate..... rather than implying you have the better car just because you overtake stuff on a track day.

Technott you fvcktard,an Elise is too soft for track use and everything can run rings around a Focus ST on track, but how the hell do you know, you only have driven them on teh intarwebz.

The Clio 200 is very capable on track and faster than most cars that are faster on most roads than it,see laptimes or something it's faster than most more powerful hot hatches.

An Elise is 'too soft for track use'....... biggrin

...and the rest of that post doesn't even justify a reply.

Technomatt, you've clearly got some hate for the Clio 197/ 200.

Care to tell the people why ?

And while you're on the subject give us your alternative choices to the Renaultsport.

I'm sure everyone will be waiting with baited breath. rolleyes
