My track car is based around Mitsubishi Evo mechanicals with a cable operated transverse gearbox like a Fwd car and also has a quick shift, but I never give gear changes a second thought when I am in that.
That’s really funny, I have an EVO and I’ve never even thought about changing gear, it’s not even an amazing gearchange, it just works perfectly fine, the least you’d hope for really isn’t it! :-)
.
There is definitely something fugly with the Megane gear change then.

I had an early Sunday morning hoon a few months back about 20 of us and one chap had a R26r. Now my car is perhaps x3 as powerful as that PoS wink however it was remarkably quick! I'm a big fan of them all joking aside.

That wasn't one of the Kent runs was it?

You sound like my kind of driver. I bought my 182 and R26.R both this year so no opportunity yet, but as soon as practicable I’m heading to European mountains in both smile

Maybe a fair bit to do with the driver too but i get the impression that once you learn these cars they are fairly easy to become quicker in.

My 996 Gt3 Manthey i'm always mindful of the back end breaking away ...though thats probably me being a bit of a pussy !
That’s what makes these cars fun - they are sharp and communicative and limits are high but you can get close to them and feel confident, without requiring god-like skills. The car is always with you. I have considered owning GT3s but dismissed them on the basis that I would always have in the back of my mind that the car could bite hard, and would hold back accordingly.

I’ve been doing these trips for a long time, they are my absolute favourite thing!

I’d really like to take my 182 but Iike to get there in one day, and I’m not sure about that in the Clio, the Megane is ok at getting there and back too SO LONG as you have a tag for the tolls because the Megane is actually very wide to reach out of the passenger window and upwards or getting in and out of it if a hurry in a narrow toll lane????

Regarding brakes, the Reyland 2 piece discs are excellent but my friend has a 330bhp one with the 2 piece slotted performance friction discs and pads and the stopping power is immense.

Neither of us get brake fade all day on track but his get much better bite. The car on slicks seems to eat up almost anything on any track day.

The answer is Iberia. Brittany Ferries so no tiring schlep or toll booths, And the the quality and lack of traffic density of the road network of Spain and Portugal are on another level.

Quick question- Why is it my car has a roof aerial when there was no option for a radio?

I'm sure there is a straight forward answer to this somewhere....

Can’t believe you are asking!

It’s an aero thing, try driving without it, the car is all over the place!

There is some pre wiring for s radio behind the blanking plate and some terrible little speakers in the doors too

I’m going to remove mine, it’s cheap and nasty looking and I’d rather use an old phone and some bluetooth speakers!

I’d use headphones (which surprisingly isn’t illegal to use so long as you aren’t “distracted” by them but I’m paranoid about not hearing car problems!

I once had a car stereo problem that was SO shockingly expensive to fix that I used a pair of bluetooth speakers on a 2 week driving holiday and it all worked out really well!

Back to the Megane, why didn’t they use the foglight blanks to duct some air to the brakes!

I wouldn’t be either :-)

I remember having sleepless nights about a yellow Manthey about 10 yeard ago I think, the mileage wasn’t low but the spec was EXCELLENT!

It was around the time that good 360s were £35k, 550s were £42-45k, LOW mile GT3s were the same!

I chose my R26 R because I thought I could really “use” it, and I did, I’m not sure I made the right decision! I think the 360 / 550 woild have made me worry too much and they would have been gone after a year or 2!

I ticked that box a few years ago with a 355 and managed to nick a profit out of it but it was always going to break and cost me heaps of cash so it went.

I've had 996RS and a few 997 Gt3's Gt4 and a bunch of aircooled plus lotus and M2's etc. The Manthey is great in the summer months but i cant see me being down to the R26R this time next year

My brother inlaw has a 575 and he gets INCREDIBLY upset about the bills

It’s really interesting that those great cars of yours have come and gone, I’ve had my EVO for 20 years and my Megane for 10, but during that I had a CSL for only 18 months - 2yrs and a GTR for 4yrs that I only did 6k miles in and have never thought about driving again!

I was at Litchfield having my GTR serviced, I chatted about Clios to the staff for over an hour and about how much we love them and the fun we’ve had in them, that’s when it clicked and I decided to sell the GTR!

excellent cars. Not that quick unless its remapped. Or wet. But a lot of fun and one of those few cars that breathes with the road. you can drive it at 9/10ths v easily and in all conditions

mine had gold foil under the bonnet to protect against heat soak

the front brake upgrade is easy and KTEC are certainly one of the experts but I'm sure there are many options. I had larger discs and calipers fitted from a later Megane

loads of fiddly things like elec window regulators go, but ultimately pretty cheap to own and run

this was mine. to be fair the 911 wasnt well driven

The only thing about Ktech is where it is, about 120 miles from me, it’s not the end of the world but it is in the middle of nowhere, if it’s a same day job it can be tricky if they don’t have a car to use, if it’s over night then it’s a pain to go home and return the next day!

I’ve thought about using Mark Fish in Harlow and RS tuning have a good reputation

I use a main dealer for services only, most either haven’t seen one or haven’t seen one for years!

I think there are a few expensive things, aren’t rear windows really expensive?

And did I read about broken seats? Surely that’s a mounting of some sort?

I think the exact seats were £3k each?

Ktec are terrible. RS tuning do any mapping worth having remotely there, the Ktec guy is useless and will map a car even with faulty sensors.

They also supply parts like the fuel rail that needs part of the head cut out to install and swirl pot kits with incorrect hoses that leak and make the car stink of fuel. Poor design solutions from Ktec, steer clear where possible.
