It is well known that the synchros on first, second and third are modified with a single piece, solid baulk ring instead of the original three piece.
It is also quite common for those with repaired/replaced boxes to have quite stiff changes once the box is quite warm. I suppose stiff is seen as better than crunching though!
Well in that case, you are the only bloke that knows about this modification. It is also quite common for those with repaired/replaced boxes to have quite stiff changes once the box is quite warm. I suppose stiff is seen as better than crunching though!

I doubt it's true.
Even late spec Clio 200's have failed gearboxes.
Many Clios have had more than one failed gearbox.
Where are all these modified and strengthened gearboxes then?

Officially there's nothing wrong with the gearboxes. Admitting they are putting stronger rings in is essentially saying the original rings aren't up to the job and admitting the problem.
You are not addressing the real issue. This has been going on for years and still is. If Renault has solved the problem, why are late build car's gearboxes still failing (some with very low mileage) and some owners have had more than one replacement gearbox.
You would be better off saying 'officially' Renault has never solved the problem.

Odd how my new one is better than the old one...
I do wonder where the hate comes from Technomatt, ex renault employee? buggered by a twizzy? who knows.... you do seem to have a bee in your bonnet though.
Also odd that no one can substantiate any modifications..... I do wonder where the hate comes from Technomatt, ex renault employee? buggered by a twizzy? who knows.... you do seem to have a bee in your bonnet though.
I also wonder where all the unsubstantiated bias and replies keep coming from. Owners, ex owners? buggered by the truth? Who knows... but I now have a good feel from where it’s coming from.

People don't care what you think that much.....

I will also be clear for you and just stick to the facts, unless you can prove otherwise:
This is a huge problem for Renault and Clio owners. About 1 in 4 owners on one of the well respected forums have had replacement gearboxes. Late build Clio 200s also have gearboxes that fail. Anyone buying second hand or out of warranty needs to be aware of a potential huge bill. Even those in warranty can end up paying a big contribution. Some sell as their warranty expires due to gearbox worries. Renault have never declared a gearbox modification.
Some people obviously think that is an insignificant issue or wish to downplay it because they own a Clio RS. That’s up to them, but unfortunately it doesn’t change the reality.
I’ll start to care about what you say when you have something more in tune with reality.

Modifications to the gearbox or not, your claim that owners are being charged towards the replacement of the gearbox, whilst under warranty, need some substanciation, other than just your theories and pub stories
It's quite obvious from my post. Even if your car is in warranty with Renault, a box change can incur charges for non-warranty covered ancillaries such as a new clutch etcBy the way, as your posts suggest you are a Renault employee with your real customers here:

Nobody denies a problem, the size of the problem and the way the figures have been acquired are the question.
An internet forum poll never has been, and never will be refresentative of anything other than those on the forum.
My knowledge doesn`t come from a few mates down the pub, but real cars, real customers.
Could we have some of that superior ‘knowledge’ on Renault's official Clio 197/200 gearbox failure rates or details on these alleged gearbox modifications that have solved this huge failure rate?An internet forum poll never has been, and never will be refresentative of anything other than those on the forum.

I have a 2010 RS200 in which I've done 27k mls. Lovely gearbox, no issues, (extended warranty). EVO recently highlighted it as one of the Top 10 manual gearboxes.
I'm assuming failures are actually fairly rare, but out of interest, how does it manifest itself.
Being nigh on impossible to get into a gear when cold and crunching between 3rd and 4th.I'm assuming failures are actually fairly rare, but out of interest, how does it manifest itself.
