I've been offered a 2004 Bentley Continental GT 6.0 W12 Coupe, in black with blue hide, for £22k. It's a first refusal ...
There is one on eBay at the moment with 45k miles less, same year and no bids at £24k.....perhaps £22k isn't the mega deal first thought IMHO

cheers

I was chatting to a former CGT owner a few months back......

His last service was 9k. Pounds. GBP. For the avoidance of doubt, Sterling. Other bills were spectacular.
Facts like this generally get ignored around here hehe

.......and has been mentioned on this thread, if you are lucky; basic cheap running costs! If you are not; massive bills.

It is a lottery. Good luck.

I'd love to see the breakdown of this 9k service.

My guess would be 50% is not needed and the other 50% is inflated 30% by the main dealer.

I remember my dad being told he need new discs on his XJ by the jag dealer many moons ago, the fact that they passed another 5 MOTs merely inconsequential.

Is it possible to buy a decent warranty on a Bentley with this mileage? If so what is the cost? This would be the way to go for the OP as he has no mechanical ability/inclination so DIY servicing is not an option.

Erm...Wow! Completely overloaded this topic! Wasn't expecting all this. I'm 100% not the type of person to do my own maintenance - putting fuel in, topping up the screen wash, oil and changing a wheel are about the extent of my abilities with cars. Oh, and i can't really buy a drum of oil as i live in an apartment building! I think you've really taken it to extremes 300bhp/ton as most of what you say - i won't be doing. I don't have the inclination, or time, to sourcing individual parts in a way to slightly reduce the costs TBH...

I too would like to know what sort of parts and labour costs (at a specialist vs dealer) for things like turbos, electric faults, big parts like suspension etc, as i'm struggling to find (accurate) info on the internet.

As i said earlier i have a back-up fund of say around £10k although it wasn't intended on running a car it's there if anything gets hairy. I think i will regret it either way, buying it or not buying it. I believe it will be the cheapest GT in Britain(!) (that hasn't been crashed) and although i accept it will still lose money on value i can't see these cars around the £10k mark within a couple of years.

I should have stated if i do go ahead i will only have it for a year certainly no more than two years. and i would get something else, so in a way it's just a car i can say i had and enjoy it for what it is.

Going to look on Saturday when it comes in but i feel like when i'm behind the wheel it will be hard to say no...oh, dear.
You mention in one of your posts that your uncles dealership was going to underwrite it through the trade or auction it.

If it all stacks up after your inspection why not ask him to make a couple of calls to the trade (if he hasn't already done so to get the p/ex value) to see if they would take it and at what price.

This will then give you a benchmark for value/saleability in the current market.

If you did get it I am sure your uncle could use his contacts to help you dispose of it if it became an unreliable/unaffordable nightmare.

Consumables like tyres, brakes, oil etc cost bugger all in the grand scheme of things. Ok a couple of grand maybe. But it is the non routine items which fail and very quickly rack up the mega bills. It will only take one or two failures for an eye watering telephone number bill. VAG are not exactly known for being uber reliable. Personally I have needed to spend £4k on failures on a mere Passat W8 in a single year (45k mile example, FSH). So a premium badged VAG mobile like this is only ever going to be multiples of that. Any little job is going to be painful. A large job is going to be crazy. Listen to the Bentley tech on here wink

This is the sort of thing I'm talking about. Your Jag dealer like any other Garage (I hope) looked up the minimum thickness specified by the Manufacturer, got out a vernier calliper and advised the customer of how close his discs where to the minimum specification.

In fact I'm a little sad that someone on a car enthusiast website thinks that what will and won't pass a MOT is the be all and end of serviceability for components.

No offence but it kind of is..... The amount of braking power required to pass an MOT isn't exactly huge. But on the flip side of that of course the manufacturer will always recommend changing them when there is plenty of braking power left, but they want to ensure optimal performance and of course if they had the limits set lower and someone crashed due to brake fade.....

With a car like this you also have to remember the day that you will have to sell. It's all well and good buying a halfords barrell of oil and doing your own oil changes and saving a few hundread quid over your period of ownership versus going to a proper Bentley indi who knows what he is doing.

however in a few years down the road when you go to sell there will be plenty of similar cars so potential buyers will have the choice of buying from a guy who is good at googling and arguing on the internet and a guy who has had his Bentley serviced by a well respected indi

And the internet guy can probably sell it for 5 grand less since he has spent about 20 grand less on repairs?

If I have learned anything in life, its that it will eventually sell, its simply a matter of price.

Kinda thought this would happen on something like a Toyota IQ first, not a Bentley!

In reality, I guess you could probably fab some up using the old ones for a pattern but it still seems mad
Now they're getting into (relative) banger territory, someone will surely commission the necessary bits even if VW don't release them.
They would have done it by now. Prob no market as most home mechanics don't have a gt in thier lock up. What Bentley are saying is that it's a disposable product, throw away when worn out, there is simply too much tech in a small space, as for the head gasket issue, maybe you could have the gasket and head bolts fabricated, but then you really are into the realms of fantasy.

Probably due to the "odds and sods".
