Any deals on new/pre-reg Cooper S
Discussion
i can do you £985 off a new (09-plate) MINI Cooper S if you want it, tbh, depending on what spec you're after i could probably do you a chunk more - some good deals going about if you can buy before the end of march and you're happy to take a 2008 specification (but unregistered) Cooper S.
if you are serious, PM me a spec you would be looking for and i'll get to work!
cheers,
Gareth.

There are deals, MINI sales are down, the residual value is now no longer the second highest in the market.
Yes there are manufacturer deals to be had.
But the way to play is that there are more than one dealer to go to with your order. They want it instead of the other garage down the road to meet their targets.
The value of the car itself is harder to get money off, but think about things like TLC, dealer fit accessories, these are well within the dealers reach to reduce to be more competitive on as they have a tasty margin on these as well as any labour charges to fit them, just as the APR rate on any finance deal and the trade in on any exchange you might have (remember the used car market is doing well).
So don't just go to one dealer, get the best price from at least 3, make them away that yes you want a MINI but you are willing to travel to get the best deal.
Personally I find Woodmans in Blackpool the best dealership to negotiate with, and I travel up from the South Coast to buy from them, speak to Alison is my advice

Looks like a £1500 saving over list price to me, not to be sniffed at. p/x price on O6 plate mini one cab with 41k and in very good condition £8,000

However, with the current offers mini are doing on the option packages (£1k ish off the chilli) and the tlc pack (£500 ish) supposedly being one of the things dealer's are prepared to negotiate on/chuck in for free i'd be inclined to have a word with a few more dealers and see what they can do.
Seem's like all your getting off list is what any other dealer could do.

Someone that goes to many dealers is going to get no attention from me, and I will ring the next place and tell them the customers antics and they will do the same.
i'm afraid okgo is right guys, the dealer that wins on price is always going to loose on price...
there's a reason why my dealership has been exclusively dealing with bmw products for 33 years and we have certainly built up a very loyal customer base who would rather continue to deal with us than go to the next dealership for £100 less!
i had a customer last month who has bough 4 bmw/mini's in the past year yet insists on shopping everyone, if he had just made a relationship with us (the local dealer) or another dealer he would not only get a better price but he would also get a MUCH better level of service...
needless to say i didn't sell him a mini but worryingly neither did the garage that had sold him a 1-series 2 months previously, i just can't understand why he wouldn't build a relationship up and save himself the hassle and in the long run money...

I'm not trying to antagonise here but do you know why he actually felt the need to shop around? Maybe he wasn't entirely convinced by the level of service he was being offered by your dealership (it could have been other reasons of course). You say that if he'd gone to the effort to make the relationship he'd have got a MUCH better level of service and a better price from you - why should that be? Surely it's his perogative to get the best deal that works for him, that might be best price, it might be he wants to buy from the salesman keenest to have his business, everyone has different requirements and as the salesman surely it's important to find out early on what the customer actually wants from the deal. there's a reason why my dealership has been exclusively dealing with bmw products for 33 years and we have certainly built up a very loyal customer base who would rather continue to deal with us than go to the next dealership for £100 less!

I've just bought a MINI from a main dealer and I won't have to buy another for 4 years. I have quite a few dealers around the area and I was quite surprised by the various levels of interest that I received to my enquiries. Some dealers were hardly interested in even giving me the full spec of a car I was phoning about but ironically the guy who made the most effort and clearly wanted my business simply didn't have the right car for me which was a shame as I could tell he was really keen to have my business and did everything that he said he would do and followed it up.
In the end I got the right deal for me and the process was pretty smooth overall.
You guys have a pretty thankless task at times, but these are tough times and most people are feeling the pinch. Surely you can't blame them for shopping around?
jon, you're not antagonising me, because i get what you're saying, i cannot be all things to all men and i have had customers genuinely not like me (and i'm one of the nice guys!), but i am me and they are them, i don't neccesarily like all my customers!
however, the chap mentioned earlier walked into the dealership and announced that we were his "local dealership" but he will be "shopping us", on talking to him further it transpired how many cars he buys and he "always does this", he obviously has his way, but i see the people who come back time after time to our dealership and get treated with respect and looked after...
i never said that if the customer had 'made the effort' then he would get a better price from me, the price is the price, end of. if you buy 100 cars off us a year or you buy one every 10 years, we still can't give the cars away.
BUT, if he had a relationship in place he could make a simple phone call, saying i want xxx and the mutually agreed price would be applied, rather than starting afresh each time.
it is hard to explain it without sounding like we only care about people who spend big money with us, but a dealership that "stands out" at the moment is going to win alot of hearts and in turn wallets, i just feel in my personal opionion if i was in his posistion i would prefer to speak to a friendly face and get treated with respect everytime i walked in rather than have to go through the hassle of shopping several dealers everytime i wanted to buy a car.
put it another way, it is safe to presume that before you collect your new car you have to pay for it right? be that cash, or the finance arangement agreed...
we have customers that can come in with a cheque and drive off in their new car because they are "known" to us... they aren't going to worry about £100 difference in price but do care when they phone up and tell us they need a car yesterday and we sort one out for them!

I expect you shop around for all your insurances, fuel, utilities, car service etc(I do), why should it really be any different with buying a car?
And even if I shopped around I would still expect the same respect from everyone I spoke to within a dealership. Or am I expecting too much?
