Haggling with a Mini dealership

When the pas pump failed on my nieces 02 mini one then the local dealer covered most of it as goodwill and she had to pay a £150 contribution-hardly a disaster?!...

When I bought a new Fiesta. I bartered for the car the week before Christmas and got 3k off the list price as a stock car. I advised the dealer I wanted finance on this car and I am sure that reflected in the price they said I could have the car for. At the last minute I paid cash and they did look a bit disgruntled, but could argue the price they did. So cash doesnt always talk these days.........

It looks like this is Lisa's first and only post and has registered with the purpose of venting some frustration on a brand she feels let down by so will feel better if she can put as many people off buying them. Not good for anyone to suffer such failures on a car and feel for the person but that's motoring sometimes

Slightly back on topic anda tad thread hijack, my Mrs wants to swap her 197 RenaultSport for a used supercharged Cooper S sidewalk or R56 Cooper S. What do you reckon my chances are of a decent discount on screen over the xmas period?

Glasses showing Sidewalks as less than £9000 trade in with mid 20's on the clock and in top condition now but loads of dealers asking 12k to 13k still.

I bought my R53 a couple of years back over Christmas - picked it up Christmas eve. Managed to get £1k off the screen price and tax, MOT and the usual bits and bobs for free. On a personal note go for the Supercharged rather than the turbo - much more fun!!

Thanks. I have had good deals in the past but in more recent years, my haggling has gone a bit soft and with the last few cars I have bought, dealers not preapred to talk deals. Maybe I negotiation advice.
Will it be socialbly acceptable for a bloke to actually be seen to have fun driving an open top mini

Yep our R53 Cooper S steering pump failed, but luckily it was still under warranty by MINI so no additional costs. Prior to the Cooper S we owned a MINI One for six years without a fault. I wondered whether larger alloys/ greater width caused greater strain on the pump causing premature failure? Our Mini One did not have alloys and had bog standard wheels, the Cooper S had 17" wheels.....

My nieces mini one had bog standard 15" alloys from new so probably not that.
