A surprisingly almost incident free commute this morning but then most of it i did on the backroads.

The only pillocks were the Merc that just would not move over on the A14 and the pleb in the Cinquicento (sp) that turned left at a roundabout from the right hand turn lane. Thes ethings are almost normal these days though.

Doesn't anyone wlse see stupid things happen on the roads or am I just a magnet for these things - or perhaps its the 40K miles a year I drive!

Nope I see stupid drivers on a daily basis. In fact im sure ive got the only invisible skyline on the road. It must be silent too because every day some muppet will pull out in front of me.

to post the amount of stupid things I see on a daily basis would require Ted to get a MUCH bigger pipeline and server system

Just a wee selection of todays for you -

The transit van that decided slipstreaming me for 3 miles was a surefire way to cut down his fuel bill - either that or he somehow thought that by sitting an inch off my bumper I might try some deathwish overtake into constant oncoming traffic, to get past the person going 40 in a 60 in front of me.

The Merc that decided it's easier to go up the hardshoulder for 100 yards and then attempt to turn right across the roundabout causing lots of horn blowing from those ahead of me.

The Car Transporter that decided those incredibly large chevrons indicating a tight corner didn't apply to high sided large vehicles, nearly pushing a car a few ahead of me into the central reservation.

The BMW that decided my overtaking him on a dual carriage way in such a lowly shit car was unnacceptable - he even went to the lengths of temporarily suspending the text message he was compiling on his mobile to get better sorted for a -floor-and-cut-up maneouver on me.

Ad infinitum

rofl
I'll bet he almost spilt his coffee and probably dropped the electric shaver. It's just a shame that you disturbed him watching his favourite film on the in car DVD player!

Come on y'all - tell us yours!

Managed to avoid getting squashed against the cetral barrier by a 40 tonne lorry - it took copious use of horn, lights and accelerator to get him to realise I was there! I know they have blind spots but he didn't even check his mirror or indicate, just started to move out. I think he knew I was there and trying to frighten me!

Other than the above and the usual roundabout lane drifters, another quiet day on the road to Cambridge.

A14! - Don't you just love it?

Talking to myself again!

Driving round a 3 lane roundabout in Milton Keynes, where the roundabout has 3 exits would seem to indicate an easy choice of lane for everyone.

Everyone maybe apart from Merc ML320 tank thing that was in the right lane and then decided he wanted to go straight on at the last moment, same place as i was heading. With no indication he swerved, causing me to test my ABS (and that of the car behind who was thankfully attentive). He then proceeded to drive in the outside of two lanes (nothing in the inside lane) while going over antoher two roundabouts before finally turning right.

I would have made a 'gesture' or two but he was so high up in his tank that he wouldn't have seen it anyway.

Mark, you wouldn't see any traffic on that thread. Apart from postings the blind people that seem to frequent our roads.

Actually it was quite evil on the roads this morning. Fridays are usually quiet on the way in and hell on the way home.

The weather this morning made the drive "interesting" with very heavy rain causing standing water in many places deep enough to cause the sterring wheel to "grab".

Around J16 Molesworth there was a Sportka that has hit the water flooding the outside lane and spun around hitting both ends on the barrier - no other vehicle involved by the look of it. I passed the scene just after it happened.

Apparently there was another incident in the same spot about 30 mins later with at least 2 cars involved. Hope everyone's OK!

The rain seems to slow things down on the Huntingdon to Cambridge stretch such that it flows better, the traffic that is and not the rain!

So, i'm still alive. Thanks for the concern chaps.

It's very windy here in Cambridge as well as showery. I'm not looking forward to the drive home!

That`s the point Alan. If I went out birdwatching and saw a "Thrush", a "Seagull" and a "Sparrer" I`d get laughed at by my twitching mates. hehe

Must be A14 thing.
Visited Woodgreen this morning as we're contemplating a dog.
Red Ford Ka, completely empty road, pulls into outside lane and just sat there, not another car in site but me and i was going quicker. WTF?

You not at work today Alan?

Anyway question:
Why when the kids are off school, (around 50% of the year it seems), is there such a vast reduction in traffic on the roads? And trains too.
Now i can understand this around school time, after all we wouldn't want the little ones being exposed to the outside would we? (Don't understand this either, i always walked to school and insisted my kids did too), why does it affect commuting traffic?
Now it can't be people taking time off work as nobody gets even half that amount of time off.

Explain please................

I have no idea - I can't work that one out either. I can only think that its people taking time off or working from home, but it doesn't explain the huge reduction people always describe.

I wouldn't know of course - I never see morning traffic jams .... I'm too busy walking the kids to school

A huge percentage of the population are teachers or employed in schools, coupled with all the parents who insist on personally driving their kids to school and impossible public transport or cycle way options available in most cases there will be a notable drop in traffic during holidays. Of course colleges tend to also have the same holiday times and a fair few students drive.

It certainly is a issue which could be reduced. Especially by having more good parents such as our lovely Mrs Blue Cerbera! thumbup

Thats because they need to turn right in 12 miles time. shoot They might get stuck on the inside lane with all the traffic and not be able to get into the correct lane in time, miss there junction and obviously spontaniously human combust laugh

Dont you know anything

I've never understood people who miss their junction, and then shoot across 3 lanes of traffic to get off, either be aware, or just drive up to the next junction and turn around, its not like the massive signs telling you that you've got a mile before the junction are small and inconspicuous(sp) rolleyes

I see it all the time over here ,,,,the scarey thing is they probably do it every day or it seems like it

Still can't this makes much difference Steph, for instance in Ketterinski there how many schools? 10 - 15 maybe? Can't imagine that would make much of a dent.
And as for folk staying of work to look after kids, how many people get anything even close to that much holiday.
Also why on earth should that make a difference at 6am? Schools don't open till 9 do they?
Also why would this affect the train to London?

Anyway i don't care it means it will take me under 15 minutes to get home form the station rather than nearer 30 and 50+ mpg rather than 40, so hurrah for whatever it is!

Flu has got me so I'm off today & probably tomorrow as well.

I can only assume the traffic decrease is the lasck of school run, people taking time off and less people travelling distances to meetings so they are close to home to look after their little darlings!
