Surfing - what to do with my keys?
Discussion
I'm heading to the beach for the first time without a girl who's willing to sunbathe and look after my car keys.
I assume my key fob and immobiliser doesn't appreciate sea water, what do I do with them? Leaving them on the car or with my bags etc whilst I surf is a no no, my dad's car was stolen years ago making this mistake.

I use one of these as I hate having keys on me in the water:

These are not infallible, as a few at my local have found out. Aquapacks have been known to let in water over time. One option is to get a 'blank' key cut so that you can use it to lock your car via the door locks, leaving the 'proper' key in the locked car and using the leash pocket for the 'blank', risky option insurance wise though. Luckily the car park attendant looks after mine !!http://www.extremehorizon.com/surf-shop/keypod_com...
You used to be able to get a padlock on a combination lock that also open a compartment on the back which you put your car key in. you then padlock the whole thing to a fixed and preferebly hidden part of your car, spin the combination so it locks and you've effectively locked the key to the car. Don't know how good they are and where to get em though.

Looks like exactly as you describe http://www.extremehorizon.com/surf-shop/keypod_com...
I use one of these, conveniently locked to my back box hanger out of view !! You can fit a fairly large set of keys in there

Just dont take the "bury the keys" advise, I was surfing in Durban, South Africa, and I inconspicuously buried the keys on a reasonably empty beach while checking no one was looking (at least I thought they werent, I was even dumber back then).
Went and had a surf, came back, keys gone. Got to the parking lot, car was gone, and I had to walk a very long way to the Police station with only a pair of baggies and a surfboard. They seemed amused when I walked in and told them my car had been stolen, I had to make up a story about having the keys in a bag and the bag being stolen while my back was turned, but they must've known the truth.
The good news is the surf was great.

At my local, the car thieves hide in the dunes with binoculars watching where you hide your car keys. They then phone their mates who are in the car park, directing them to where you've hidden your keys. Went and had a surf, came back, keys gone. A lot of people I know take nothing to the beach, no wallet, no phone, only £5 just in case.
get a blank key cut & us eit to lock the car then either use the key pocket in your wetsuit or put it on a bootlace or similar around your neck. Leave the key/fob well hidden in the car. Always worked for me but I have seen people use the locks that they attach to the underside of their car - just doesn't seem as secure to me.
The immobiliser-ised (but not remote) key to the rented Hyundai Atoz we had in Santorini in May proved to be waterproof, as I tied it to the laces on my trunks when snorkeling.
The Atoz also proved to be off-road capable, in the way only hire cars can be.
