Well, the new driver is a revelation it has to be said.
I’m hitting fairways for fun with it, and the bad shot I had with the old driver (low left and hooky) has literally disappeared - I haven’t hit a single drive left in 4 rounds of golf since picking it up.

"And here we see a prime example of the breed Golferis Honeymoonis. Witness his smile, and positive demeanor. In the coming months, as the season changes, we will see this optimism fade, to be replaced ... inevitably ... by the previous state of confusion, and frustration.
An endless cycle, powered in the first place by the ... desire for birdies, and ultimately...the sun."

Very good Jim!

Would love to try one of these ST200s out to make sure of getting the right shaft but no idea where I could do that in Powys!
Celtic Manor is your nearest Mizuno performance centre. Either that or here: http://mileendgolfclub.co.uk/

Ah Ok looks like I'm going to have to squint back through the thread to find who it was who was buying an ST200.
It was me! I have the S200G and have been made up with it, much more consistent than my old driver (although I'm sure that's probably more shaft related). Very impressed with the Mizuno.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully you won’t be out too long. I’m thinking of changing my irons soon and like the look of the MP20’s, which did you go for and why? I’ve dodged between 6 and 8 for the last few years and strike it ok, but I want a little more distance and a little less spin.
I went for the MMC's from 4 right down to wedge, then I have 3 T20 wedges (50, 54 & 58). I felt the MMC just had that much more forgiveness than the blade, but retained the feel (I didn't like the feel of the HMB although I may get a 3 iron in this later).
I ended up with KBS 130g extra stiff $-Taper shafts.

What a shame, sorry to hear this, Do you normally play all year round or is that it for you until next year?
No, we play all year thankfully. Very dry course, no winter tees, greens or even rules! So very fortunate. Feeling better today but will be at least 2 or 3 weeks, maybe more, until I can get on the course.

I had the Titleist (as I currently have a 917 D3) and the TaylorMade (seems to be used by most of the equipment free agents on tour) in mind when I went down, but was fairly open minded about it all, and decided I'd go with whatever gave me the best numbers and was most consistent. Only one of the major brands I didn't try was the Mavrik, as I've hit a friend's Sub Zero and wasn't overtly impressed with the feel of it.
Tried them all and ended up with the TS4 - was giving me the most consistent numbers, mists were less punished than the others and I could try to either fade or draw it without too much trouble. Must admit I didn't think that's the Driver I was going to walk out with, as it's Titleist's ultra low spin, small headed model, but for whatever reason it just worked for me, so was happy to take the plunge.
Quite interesting as I also ended up with the Mizuno equivalent (S200G) low spinning option with x-stiff (70g) shaft! Played East Sussex National on Sunday/Monday.
West Course on Sunday for the Captains Cup competiton, I got 35 points and the win resulting in a 2 shot cut down to 21. I'm still struggling to get off the tee with anything higher than a 6 iron but once I get that mojo back I hope to get down to 18 hcp. Short game was really good.
East Course on Monday with quite a hangover was a team game and I tried/failed with driver and 3 hybrid for came in with a lowly 23 points.
All in all a good venue for a weekend break and good prep for Turkey next month.
Normally play here a couple of times a year but haven't bothered because the courses were in such poor condition this spring. I have a Garmin X10 watch, and it's superb. Nice and small so doesn't impede wrist hinge, and very light.
Every time I've played with someone with a laser I've looked at my watch and have been within 5 yards of what they have zapped - and quite often exactly the same.
I'm not that accurate (I wish!) - the watch is much simpler/quicker for me. It also gives distances to all hazards and dog legs. You can also select pin position on the green should you wish.
What more do you need?

Piltdown is lovely, but gets bloody wet (course closed wet) for weeks on end from November to May.
Judging by the bog of the overflow car park it doesn't surprise me but tee boxes and greens were in top condition. kiethton said:
Just had my new system handicap through...
5.3 (from 8 after this weekend and 9 last week), playing 6 on my home course as apparently it’s harder than average...
This is going to make shooting under it a whole lot more difficult!
Ouch! I had mine through, hasn't changed at all! 10.2 playing 10. What's your course slope rating?5.3 (from 8 after this weekend and 9 last week), playing 6 on my home course as apparently it’s harder than average...
