Interesting when even Bobby George is suggesting it's not been great darts this year.

We were watching the final yesterday in the pub. Pretty poor fare to be honest. It really brings home how little money the BBC has to spend on 'sport' if this was being served up. 5 comments on PH this year confirms its popularity ! On the plus side it looked like the fans were genuine 'darts fans' and not the 'Barmy Army' style mob over in the PDC.
The Canadian guy has always been on the back foot and then turned games around .

It always looks a right laugh in the audience.

The most 'interesting' thing about the final was Bobby George's jacket.

To win a World Championship final whilst averaging 87 says a lot - you would struggling to get past the 1st round at the PDC finals with that kind of performance.

So the BBC have dropped the coverage of the BDO World Championship which they have covered since the very first one in 1978.

Instead they will be showing the new PDC 'Champions League of Darts' in September.

The grass roots darts pub leagues are thriving, but I fear for the future of the BDO. Barry Hearn offered to buy them out for £1m a few years ago and he was turned down.

Hopefully ITV will take over.

Only just realised that C4 are sharing the broadcast duties with BT Sport this year after I caught a trailer for it earlier today.

Looks like C4 are keeping the same agreement that the BBC had for the past couple of years with BT in that they'll show the afternoon matches and BT show the evening matches. Both obviously still showing the final though.

Good comedy names this year in the BDO, highlights being David Cameron v Jimmy Hendriks and Tom Sawyer v Paul Hogan in the prelims biggrin

Best standard is likely to be 98/99 averages, semis and final usually decent drama though. Find it very hard to get excited about watching the BDO to be honest, very good players, obviously, but not the real otherworldly talent on show in the PDC.

PS - the women's total prize fund is £29k! No wonder the field is so narrow.

Exciting match there involving England's longest serving captain - he lives to fight another day.

Great match that for drama. The 164 out from Joyce to take into Sudden Death was brilliant.

Brilliant match! This next one is a bit poor though frown

Anyone watching the darts event of the year? smile

Caught one of matches on Ch4 this afternoon and the standard was pretty good (averages in the mid to high 90s).

The BDO folks don’t help themselves though as the production, lighting, commentary, the noise of the board etc are all still pants. It’s as if they take pride in the fact that whole thing looks as if it belongs in the 1990s.

It's awful, great for the darts purists I suppose, but awful as a spectator sport.

PDC has far more atmosphere, even if the pissheads are a little too raucous at times.

Heard it described as "Someone throwing apples at the side of a transit van"

Anyway, long live the BDO. It's the starting point for many!

Yeah, watching! I'm glad Hedman is out, I can't stand her throwing action or the wobbly darts for 5 minutes after they've hit the board!

This Heydon chap looks like he’s forgotten what to do between throws. Good standard here early doors too though.

Keep out of the black, and into the red, you get nothing in this game for two in a bed....

Oooops, sorry, wrong game.

Is "Jocky" Wilson playing?

Ooooof, Fallon Sherrock played better than most of the men have so far. Great performance.
