Should be fine. Get a new glove for a fiver and give the grips a light sanding to remove the shine and you're away.

(you owe your mate a BIG favour - those clubs are worth several hundred pounds)
They are not worth several hundred pounds to me. I can't get them to go in the air. And when I tried to whack the driver I missed the ball altogether! They must be defective. The only ones that seem to work are the putters.

That can happen sometimes. I’ll give you £100 for the whole lot. I’m nice like that. (And not even left handed)

Well once all this is over and we are back to normal-ish - if anyone on here is based in Cardiff (South wales, bristol area) and fancies meeting up for an hour on the range shoot me a message. I'd be happy for any advice and will be happy to pay for your balls or buy you a drink.

I quite fancy learning to hit the ball in a half-decent way and it would be fun to learn something new.

Potentially another daft question here, so please forgive me.

Some left-handed people play golf right-handed (I’m one of them). Are you sure you prefer left-handed? Have you tried both?

Yeah - I have used a golf stick before. At crazy golf and also the ones they lend you at a driving range. And I definitely need left handed one. The only thing I can do with my right hand is use scissors.

On the topic of align grips I bought a set of of Srixon Z765 irons off golfbidder a few days before the lockdown.

They have got normal golf pride grips on them but whoever the previous owner was has done something to form a ridge down the back of the grip. It's not really visible but you can really feel it when holding the club.

They feel quite pleasing to hold.

The VR Pros I got from Golfbidder had the same grips on them. They were actually the precursor to the Align models - believe they were called Tour Velvet Ribbed (oo-er) and they still look to be available from Titleist and Mizuno as a custom order.

My pro couldn't get hold of them without ordering clubs, so I had mine replaced with Tour Velvet Align - feel is identical.

Only small issue I have with they Align grips are they can result in me gripping too hard with my left hand, which normally results in a big pull. As long as I bear that in mind, they're awesome.

Everybody ready to go on Monday if we get the green light from Boris ?

Clubs seem to think it’s happening,

Just in case , the pro offered me a couple of tee times for Monday, got my mates on standby too .

Seems that some clubs are starting with 2 players and others with 3 players each tee time.
Fingers crossed 🤞

Must say I was surprised, I talk to the guy every week and he actually phoned me today to put us on standby 😂

There was an online seminar of 900 pros this week and it seems that they have put their case to the government that it will be safe. If it does go , I have a 2pm and 2.10 slot reserved.
Here’s hoping smile

After a quick Google it seems like they most definitely are the tour ribbed.

I've often noticed the 'ribbed' grips when shopping for new grips but never realised what they were. You learn something new everyday!

I've booked a 3pm tee off for Monday. It seems like all the other members are thinking the same, the course is fully booked!

Expect the worst hope for the best!

My course have said if restrictions are lifted on Sunday it’ll likely be Tuesday before the course actually opens!

May have to try another club for a cheeky round if I can sneak the afternoon off work

It’s all down to the government’s policy, I think most course’s are ready to go. I know we are. But looking like it won’t happen on Monday due to Scotland and Wales saying no to golf, however Scotland’s courses ( in the press) may open, but I can’t see it with bad publicity.

The courses whether affiliated to England golf etc haven’t got the influence to effect government policy.

It’s all ‘guidance’ to what the clubs have been given. There individual businesses that best know their situation for implementing those, we just need Boris or whoever to say, yes you can meet others but with social distancing. ( minimum numbers etc) Social distancing was implemented successfully before lockdown as well.

As regards rumours of single golfers, or same household golfing or 2 ball strategies. Not viable for a lot of courses, members will have to wait for times, little or no visitors to other clubs members only ? I’ve worked in golf for 32 years and there will be a lot of courses really struggle the next few months if it carries on.

Nevermind the rumours about some of the Golf brands that may not make it as well .

Tour velvet bct (ribbed & corded) are my weapon of choice!! (Got a few in the garage to keep me going).
