Disappointed in Pieterson to be honest ... fourth ball, clipping it through the leg side uppishley - out.

Hello? You are supposed to be SAVING the match by not giving chances, not trying to bludgeon your way to three figures - you have all day ...

Harsh perhaps, but so what, it's what I think.

found a great quote on the BBC website:

"England deserve credit for one thing - they've collapsed so quickly that I can find out the result of the test and still get a good night's sleep."

Sad but true.

Added to which we have a pikey as captain apparently ...

If you *have* to have some dreadful tattoos then ok but get a shirt with a collar and your England cap on when you go on any cricket field please Fred ..

Standards ... rolleyes

Edit: 'a' pikey not 'pikey' - the jovial Cayman-driving PHer ... !

Nope not at all harsh. In a saving game situation the gameplan should be, if it needs to be hit, hit it. If it doesn't need to be hit, don't hit it!! There was no way we were going to get enough runs to make the Aussies bat again, even if we did it wouldn't have been a defendable total.

Zetec, easy mistake to make cos they were so far ahead but they had already batted twice!

I know why you said it though - any team not enfording the follow on could make the mistake od running out of time, being done by the weather etc,

I still don;t know why they didn't enforce it - other than they're all getting old and they needed a rest ... Win the toss on Friday and let's bat for two days ... then see how sharp they are batting.

I was very surprised that they didn't enforce the follow on also, I always thought that an innings defeat was the biggest thrashing possible in cricket? I fully agree with you regarding the Aussies age problem, it'll be interesting to see how the likes of McGrath and Warne fair after 2 days in the field? OTOH, Harmison and Giles didn't look too great at the end of day one of this test.

This is what bugs me about Pietersen - the guy obviously has talent, but it seems he'd rather throw his wicket away trying to maintain his strike rate than just stay there and accumulate runs more slowly. Don't they teach these people how to build an innings properly?

I watched the ashes last time around and found it quite good but didnt understand the whole hoopla about england winning, didint they lose a game, draw one, scrape a win then were clearly going to lose the final one until it rained and australia only got one shot at batting whilst england needed 2 goes and still barely managed to win that one. Now call me a cynic but it doesnt rain much in Oz and england will be completley and utterly taken apart and the last win will be exposed as the fluke it clearly was. Or am i wrong?

You're wrong.

But as you're a Jock we expect you to be clueless on all matters not relating to pints of "heavy", poor quality football and sectarian violence so we wont chastise you this time.

You guys probably win the 'unshaven tatto' ashes. THe sight of seeign Flintoff leading a bedraggled mob of half dressed losers onto the field was depressing - and I'm an Aussie.

They salvaged a bit of pride on day 4, but you'd think they'd at least put a trachsuit on before coming onto the field.

I think he has a point though. That image doesn't exactly say "I'm proud to represent my country"...

On the contrary. I think the tattoo looks bloody awful but the one thing it does say is "I'm proud to represent my country".

Why does it - cos it's three Lions? There are many ways to say I am proud to represent my country. One way for a cricketer to show it is to play the game according to the match situation and not for personal glory ... which some in this last Test have not done.

Another is to enter the field of play suitably dressed for the occasion ... which Flintoff doesn't do - to the detriment of English cricket in my view. Can't see Vaughan coming on in a vest top with tattoos on show and needing a good shave - we'll leave the earring for the moment.

Disgrace. We might not be able to teach the Aussies how to play cricket and now we can't show them standards of dress on the field either. I don't think Ponting would be seen like that. To a man the Aussies look together and good on the field. Our players look like something the cat dragged in. Do any of our players know what an iron is? If what I'm saying sounds stupid, believe me it's not. You look sloppy, you'll probably play sloppy. The two go hand in hand to me.

I think Gooch started the unshaven trend. Atherton was fond of it too. And then there's Botham...

Below a few random pics of clean shaven immaculate and sartorial Aussies. (The very unshaven one at the end is ............... oh Ricky Ponting). And Warne is looking the wrong way so you get the fag but not the ear ring that he always wears. (Nice earring for Boony too - the less said about Merv the better).

Sorry Unrep, that doesn't wash! Poting has a day's stubble there at most - Fred has about three of four (given that he's fair-haired). Both Merv and Boony are the same - even Symonds looks presentable. You'll have to do better than that if you want to come up with a comparison!

I have never seen Ponting in a vest top - never. Find me a pic!
