I hope I see these fights and get to see if the sherdog hype is worth it.
Looking at Silva, why is he rated so high when he has a 2/2 record?

Am I the only one not really that interest in the heavy weight soap opera? With UFC 101 there are so actual fights about to take place rather than this speculation.

Anyone see Griffin getting a result against Silva?

Maybe one great fight, if the UFC however didnt give him an instant title shot there could be a few, like Carwin, Velasquez, even Gonzaga might be a good battle, rematch with Cro Cop, then after a few fights he gets a title shot (if he wins those of course), could've been done like that and given the UFC to build up his name amongst the less hardcore fans, and then the title fight would've been an even bigger occassion (except if he lost one of the tune up fights, that would be disastorous to the plan).

So he'll fight those three HW's in Strikeforce, then what? Strikeforce dont have the depth or money to get in the new up and coming HW's, the ones that look like the future of the division will go to the UFC. The UFC's division will grow whereas Strikeforce will either fold within a year or sign cans.
Strikeforce will be doing fine in a year. Tenner on it.

After those three fights Brock will either have been beaten by someone else or become a worthy opponent for Fedor.

The question is, depending on how often Fedor fights which is not often going by his history, will he be past his prime?

i think that Fedor's management have been a bit dim here.

As he has signed for strikeforce, that gives him Overeem (not faught top level mma in 2 years) Werdum & rogers, and what after that?

IF after those fights he leaves strikeforce and to go to UFC, it puts UFC in a far stronger position as there is no competition for him to go to, hence will get a lot less money.
its only a 3 fight contract, overeem faught cro cop in september 2008 by the way.

Interesting article here from a boxing promoter claiming MMA has left boxing for dead.

http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f2/pay-per-view-dist...

I have to say, hearing that the Floyd Mayweather fight that is set to go head to head with UFC 103 may be cancelled as Mayweather's uncle has been nicked, you can't help but feel that the fights promoters don't fancy their chances against the UFC.

Well it's like Rogan said. Boxing is a sport, plain and simple. MMA is far closer to an actual fight. So if you're looking for the realism aspect of "who would win in an actual fight?" you sort of have to go with MMA. If you're only interested in who is the better puncher, in an environment where kicks, takedowns, and subs are forbidden, then you'll go with boxing.
I wonder if this is an extension with the worlds new found fascination with all things "reality' in the last ten years?

MMA is still nothing like an actual fight though is it? It's a controlled environment just the same as boxing is.
How many takedowns do you see in a 'real' fight?

I have seen struggles ended by competent a take-down and sometimes a pummelling. It's just that most bullies/drunken idiots don't know how to fight, and windmill/rabbit-punch/playground-headlock their way out of it. Because I think in general trained fighters don't cause trouble and walk away from it (from my experience anyway).
I drove past a local some months ago and I saw the most technically adept bout of fisticuffs I have seen outside of a ring. Looked like both men were trained and were landing bombs on each other...was a bit surreal.
I'll also ad that MMA rules do change from promotion to promotion. Just look at how the UFC used to be...now that was a street-fightbiggrin

80% of street fights end up on the ground apparently. In every fight Ive ever had I go for the takedown first unless theres more than 1 person in which case running away is usually the best option! That normal untrained folk dont shoot for takedowns in a street fight is because they dont know how to do it properly.

Its still in a controlled environment though, I agree. Real fights have soccer kicks, stamps, gouging etc, but to say mma is nothing like a real fight isnt true.

Take downs are only good in a controled envoiroments (on the mat with rules) too many people these days think nothing of biting off your nose, ears or lips.

nonsense, if you know what your doing and its a one on one situation theres no way an untrained lump will have half a chance of getting his face anywhere near mine to bite me. If I take someone down I will land in side control and if I choose and the situation warrants it, have his arm snapped within a few seconds with a quick arm bar transition. Ive taken down shoplifters at my work many a time and held them down for up to an hour whilst waiting for the police and never once been bitten or indeed hurt whilst on the ground.

A takedown on its own wont work however, but if you have ground skills its a much safer place to be as it takes away the others guys "punchers" chance.

UFC101 tomorrow night with headline fights of BJ Penn & KenFlo, and Anderson Silva & Forrest Griffin.

Can't wait for these fight.

I want Ken Flo to give BJ a beating but I think with BJ coming off a loss and back at 155 I think BJ will take it.

I really really want Griffin to beat Anderson. If AS wins then that cemments him as one of the best P4P. however I think that Forrest who walks around at 240lb will be to big and to tough for him. I think that this is AS toughest fight in the UFC to date. Can't see Forrest allowing it to be a boring fight like AS last couple.

I want kenny to win too but like you I cant see BJ losing this one. Not after his last crushing defeat, if he loses I think BJ will retire. Ill be cheering for forrest too, I have no idea how that fight will go though, forrest is one tough SOB.

Im keen to see amir soddolah too, he was really exciting to watch on TUF. It seems like that was a looooooong time ago now though! He looks like a different person on the preview shows so far.

I am guessing Forest will weigh around 220 for the fight, Silva around 205-210. I don't think Griffins size advantage will make a huge difference here. I like Forest, but I want a Silva win herebiggrin

I'm cheering for Anderson, looking for a result where technique beats sizes (yes, I'm still pissed off that Lesner won).

I'm rooting for Silva here too. Griffin is great, but for me Silva is just on a another level, I'll be very surprised if he loses it.

I dislike BJ Penn and would love too see anyone thrash him, but he is undoubtedly a talented fighter.

Anyone know off hand when Machida's next fight is?
