Interesting how we're all different.
Am about to unlock the wallet for a Mizuno ST200 driver to go with the recently bought MP54s which I love but I can't decide between the straight 200 or the X, which has the superlight shaft and draw bias, both of which I like the sound of as I'm tending to hit drives right at the moment. But I'm wondering if going for the X might be a copout that i might regret if I eventually get the drives going straight through a good swing rather than through good technology. I'm 67 but reasonably fit, playing off 18 now but was on 14 a couple of years back and feel I can get back towards that if all the stars align.
I'm about to put my 2 round old 200x in stiff on fleabay, £200 delivered if you fancy one....Am about to unlock the wallet for a Mizuno ST200 driver to go with the recently bought MP54s which I love but I can't decide between the straight 200 or the X, which has the superlight shaft and draw bias, both of which I like the sound of as I'm tending to hit drives right at the moment. I bought my Cleveland CG15 a few years ago from American Golf. Im a beginner and was recommended to get a 52 & 56 as a starting point.
Used to play Mizuno JPX 825 Pro irons and the PW was 45, but now play F8 One Lengths and the PW is 44. Huge gap between that and the 52. Plus the PW is cavity back so loads of help on mis-hits, but the 52 is blade style so if I dont hit it well it drops off and falls well short.
I think the best option would be a 48, with a worst case a 50 degree.
44 degrees??? That's a 9 iron Used to play Mizuno JPX 825 Pro irons and the PW was 45, but now play F8 One Lengths and the PW is 44. Huge gap between that and the 52. Seriously tho, with wedges the key is to try to keep the gaps between them as consistent as possible, so if you have a 44 degree PW, that goes a little further anyway being One Length, I'd strongly suggest the 48. For reference, my PW is 47 degrees, and after that I go 50/54/58 in summer, then 52/56 in winter (no need for the 58, and means I can put my 3 iron back in again). I might even try just 50 / 54, as the softer ground means most things stop if hit in the air properly.
Also apologies for the slight hijack - but what balls does everyone use in winter? I normally use Nike RZN/Pro V1x/Tour B XS, but the premium urethane models seem overkill when they could easily plug in the rough and never be seen again. Am thinking of something in the £30 / dozen range - tried Titleist Tour Softs but they don't have the spin round the greens I'm looking for, and the new Tour Speeds are awesome, but £35/dozen.
A buddy lent me a Vice Pro Plus which was excellent, plus they do they in Red and Lime Green - anyone tried them long term? Or anything else I should look at?

Thanks. I think i will hold out and look for a 48 degree wedge to keep the gaps consistent. These are the lofts below, as said they are strong.

Either that or something half decent from the bargain bucket 3 for £1 in the clubhouse. No point playing anything decent at the moment as I'll probably lose it on the fairway. In fact, I can't remember the last time I bought any new golf balls

I've been using Inesis Tour 900 for the last couple of years and to me (HI 9.8) they seem no different to a premium ball. Good urethane ball similar to the Vice / Snell. I used to use Titliests and Callaways but haven't bought any of them since discovering the Inesis. In fact the only time I'll tee up a premium ball these days is if I'm having a really bad round and don't want to lose another Inesis so will get a findsie ProV1 out of the bag. I think that people are catching on to them though as you used to be able to get them for £15 a dozen but Decathlon have been slowly pushing the price up. Still great value at £22 though.

I normally hit a tight fade, this had me sending it out dead centre before drawing 15' left...
Nothing major, I've just never found that side of the fairway before!! Would have persevered over the summer but niggly wrist injury stopped me in my tracks.
If you fancy it drop me a pm
I do fancy it but for all sorts of boring reasons I don't want to use the PM system, is there another way of communicating that you can think of? A pitching wedge in a proper loft is normally around 46 degrees.
Is that what they are now? My MP54s aren't that old but it's a 48 in that set. Agree that the 52 feels a bit odd, I only rarely use it. groogh, I've got into all sorts of bother trying to resuscitate my old BT Internet email account
I doubt that I'll be able to sort this out anytime soon, have tried deleting the old BT account and recreating it without the Yahoo bit that BT got rid of earlier this year but every time I do it the new account I create is always BT Yahoo which is no longer recognised, arrgh, what a bugger, no PMs coming through to me. I can't seem to be able to change the email on my PH account either, double bugger
