thumbup

She has just provided the best response by picking up two golds in her two events today biggrin

Just the 50FR tomorrow, not her fave and may not make the final, but v happy with results anyway

Oh, and commentators still hadn’t got the news, confidently announcing that PB Jnr2 had just picked up her 5th gold of the meet - we smiled!

No, Dad, that’s not how it works!

Made the final, came 6th… Says she’s not a FR swimmer.

Tally for 12-13Y Girls MC is gold for 50BR, 100BR and 50BK, and silver (although originally awarded gold) for both 100BK and 50FY

Action shot from start of the 50BR, pink cap…

Thanks!

Racing outside sounds like fun until it gets to 30C and you’re there for a few hours. Or it gets windy. Or a storm comes through and it all gets delayed because of lightning. We had all of that in the last three days!

Thunder and lightning for the finals on day 1 - doing the 100BK in the rain at night was apparently “kinda trippy”

Oh, and no covers for the fans…

But we got over it…

Last little update from me…

PBJnr2’s club finished 4th overall - that is, 4th in the country out of about 400 clubs that sent swimmers to this comp. Pretty bloody good result.

PBJnr2 was the club’s third highest points scorer - she’s chuffed. I’ll leave you with this pic of her being announced for the final of the 50FR, courtesy of one of the pro photographers present…

Lovely looking girl, and a proper swimmer physique too. Hopefully she’ll go a long way in the sport smile

Well done again PBJnr2. Some brilliant performances in world swimming at the moment - Summer McIntosh's WRs at 16, Leon Marchand is killing it and as a distance swimmer, Dan Wiffen's 14.34 1500 last week was epic.

At a far more prosaic scale, Masters competition time for me this upcoming weekend - doing the same events as I did at the same meet last year to aiming to improve times. Third meet of the year so far - first one in Feb went well, got my fastest time in the 400 free for 11 years. Did a long course 1500 free in March which was horrific - went out too fast trying to keep up with swimmers 20 years younger than me and spent the middle 1000m debating whether or not to stop. Six weeks to British Masters Champs in good old Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Good luck HS with your racing, I think a few of our club are heading to British Masters, but not quite sure who yet.

Those Wiffen performances were amazing, plus I think I saw a 15 year old lad go sub 51 for 100fc....plus that 14 year old girl celebrating her birthday with a 1500 in 16:19 !!! 'mazing!

My son swam like a donkey at a Level 1 meet the other weekend, in the middle of a big block, but still went much slower than we expected, 200fc he did first 100 in 1min flat, then the next 100 in 64 ! (not ideal for a 17 year old male) then his 50 fc was 1.5 secs off PB and 100 fc was 2 secs off.

On a positive note (part of the reason he swam poorly) my son and daughter were part of a 4x400 relay team a few days before the meet....they did a continuous relay for 24 hours to raise money for the club.

Sadly....

There was a continuous relay in the lane beside them too (all club, not just four) and a lad threw up with just under 2 hours to go and the pool was closed!!!! They were gutted! Still raised £3k though, but to get so close hurt them a lot.

Thanks for all the comments!

As for distance swimming, it’s not quite like the 1500, but at the Age Champs, the MC swimmers have a couple of days to themselves and Swim Aus had put the 400FR immediately before the 200FR. 400m is the longest MC event and those that wanted to do the longer events had to race the 400 heat, get out and go straight to marshalling for the 200. The finals were the same.

One of PBJnr2’s swimming friends has one leg, and is a distance swimmer. She qualified for both finals that day, which also included the 50BK. She was toast at the end, as were many others who raced both.

I’ve plenty of admiration for those that race 800/1500 - it’s not just the physical, but the mental for that distance - so, chapeau indeed to any that do it thumbup

That'd literally be a dream swim for me!

Hope he's not too down about his swims, I let bad swims get on top of me far too much when I was young.

I've just started open water swimming and have to wear a brightly coloured swim cap at the lake. This is my first time using a swim cap as all my swimming up to this point has been in the pool. I am getting sores on the back of my neck from what I can only assume is the swim cap rubbing as I turn my head. I've tried 2 different swim caps but still have the same problem so it's not down to material. Does anyone else have experience of this and how did you overcome it? For reference I swim around 1-2hrs at a time.

Thanks

Have you tried Body Glide around your hair/neckline? I've used it to good effect with tri- and wet-suits. My daughter uses it for a slightly ill-fitting new pool swimsuit.

Anyone heading to London this weekend for the AP International?

We were going to watch, but my son has decided last minute to enter a 50 and 100 fc for a bit of a tune up lol! He's hoping to be in a warm up with Le Clos or someone else lol!

He's had a few niggles of late and studying for A level mocks, so not expecting any decent times, but will be nice to see him race around some world class athletes.
