There are some doubts arising that tomorrow's final Test of the series will go ahead, after more India training staff have tested positive for C19. The India team have skipped today's practice session are are reportedly all remaining in their hotel rooms.

Sounds like a sneaky ploy to win the series early by default https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/58500916

Lucky for England, salvaged a 2 all draw from the series.
How so ? Whats the result from the cancelled test ?
India probably would have won this match and the series, so it doesn't really change anything, just seems an annoyingly late decision not to play if you were planning to attend.

They left it a bit late to cancel it, my wife says there were loads of people travelling to the match on the train this morning.
I imagine the stall holders and food/drink vendors are absolutely furious. I wonder how much it cost the ECB to send a Covid infected person into the Indian ranks

Test should be called the same way as if the weather had stopped it. So India win the series. The ECB clutching at straws on "forfeit" is just that. They need to face up to the fact that they were trounced in this series.
(I do wonder how many IPL matches will be cancelled because of Covid...I suspect there will be miraculous bubbles through that series).
Total shambles to call it on, then off.
I expect that India were very happy to not play and expected/demanded (knowing Kohli) that the result would not count against them.
I expect the series will be declared a 4-Test series that India won 2-1. Probably about right, given how dismal England have been in some sessions. India definitely won more sessions over the series than we did.
I’ve been watching England for more than 30 years, I can’t remember us ever having such a brittle batting line up. At least when we played the West Indies in their prime you knew it was mostly down to the pace and class of the bowling. This bunch find all sorts of innovative ways to lose 4 wickets in a blink.
Without Root it would have been a total embarrassment. It’s obvious where India get their batting talent from, but how do Aus & NZ develop their depth from a much smaller pool of players and a less well supported & funded national leagues?

Cancelled primarily to save the IPL, but money talks!
This was my thoughts. Get them back early enough to quarantine and be able to start the IPL early doors. Also, does anyone know if the IPL is carrying on from what it was postponed/cancelled last time or is it starting fresh ?

As IPL is worth £300m to BCCI, perhaps they can contribute to lost earnings for ECB/Lancs/fans/snack sellers.
Cricinfo also reporting that patient zero was considered the book launch last week, attended by the India squad. hmmm
There's a tweet going around linking to a story suggesting that India asked for this test to be moved right back in May so they could finish the IPL off.
It was subsequently refused.
As someone tweeted in the comments, it's like asking your boss for a date off in the future, him refusing & then taking it off as a sickie. Something smells here....![scratchchin](/inc/images/scratchchin.gif)

I imagine everyone will be. Utter farce. Ticket holders should get their money back though.

Trounced is a strong term as we won one test by a monster margin and in all games have been competitive. Admittedly we got away with a draw in the first match, but that doesn't matter. I wonder how much it cost the ECB to send a Covid infected person into the Indian ranks

Positives were the bowling unit looks pretty good, Root needs to find a way way better plan to take it to the tail enders, he yet AGAIN let matches drift with poor fielding positions and odd bowling choices. Andersen has never been all that at knocking over the tail.
After ditching Sibley I am OK at last with the top three. they look ok. Our issue is the middle. Pope needs more time, Bairstow, Buttler, Curran, Ali - should be a reliable 150 every match between them. Too many times they are exposing the tail before we are competing/ahead in matches.
Ali and Curran should be out after this. Buttler versus Bairstow is simply about who keeps wicket best.
Which spinner to you take for the Aussies to hammer all over the place ?
