I don't think I will get Dr's papers for an overseas event. Wife st a brick when I told her the entry fee.

Think I will have to lose some more weight and get up those hills!

I think the size of the entry fee is designed to ensure that you have domestic support for your training programme: "You get out there and get your arse in gear! We're not wasting that bloody entry fee, you lazy sod!"

TBH, by the time you get to race day, you'll be ready for the hills and the distance. You many not enjoy them any more than you do now, but you'll be ready for them.

Ironfit by Don Fink is a good starting point.

Thanks for the tips. Just under a year until Wales so should be enough time to build up to that.

You'll love it. Don't worry about the hills. You'll look forward to them second lap round because of the crowds cheering you on.

Well GR did it in 14:04, pretty poor run by the looks of it.
For me, there should only be two ways of racing at Kona:-

1. By qualifying. This demonstrates incredible performance (in 99% of cases).
2. Through their legacy programme. This demonstrates incredible dedication.

Anyone that gets to race there under any other circumstance, doesn't get it. If I was offered a "golden ticket" I simply wouldn't take it. I would feel (and be, IMO) a complete fraud.
God, I'd love to start that race though!!!!

What is everyone planning on racing next year? I am not sure I will be ready for IM Wales next year as I need to take the winter to get some serious running miles through my legs to make sure the injury doesn't return.

At the minute I am thinking:

Grendon (Sprint) - 11th May

The Cowman (HIM) - 29th June

MK Tri (Oly) - 27th July

Roade (Sprint, pool based) - 27th Sep

Also possibly going to do the Milton Keynes Half Marathon in May. Will also do the Galeforce Events Mass Start Swim series. Probably enter the 750m or 1500m distance and go for a age group series win!

Just need to break it to the wife that there is about £400 in entries fees there! Shall start squirreling some money away now!

I'm considering doing the Challenge race on the 14th September, which looks likely to be Weymouth.

I've lost a bit of inspiration after IM Wales - I enjoyed it so much I can't see another experience matching it. I'm looking for other challenges now, so other than the London Marathon I haven't entered anything.

Someone inspire me!!

I'll be doing my first tri next year.. I was hoping to start with a sprint distance with a pool swim, but prior to the one I had planned there is an olympic distance with an open water swim that looks proper tempting..

I've got the below for next year:

Outlaw half - 1st June

Ironman UK - 20 July

And any other races I like the look of after that. Going to try and get a few early season races in too this year as well as some cat 4 racing.

I'm looking at:-

IM Lanzarote - 17th May (entered)
IM Mallorca - 27th September (finger poised)

however, I've just been with my girlfriend to a 12 week scan which confirmed she is infact 14 weeks pregnant eekyikeseek and the due date is 21st April!!!

Obviously it's great news (it would be our first), but my finger is going to have to stay poised for Mallorca and I'm totally hoping that if everything goes well that it's not late in arriving!

That aside, autumn training is going OK - I'm still getting used to running in the dark, the covers are just about to come off my indoor bike trainer and I'm just starting a 4 week strength/conditioning programme. Not done too much swimming recently, but did have a 7k charity sea swim a month or so ago and that felt surprisingly good - will be back in the pool in a few weeks though biggrin

Join the club mate. I lack the imagination so signed up again for Wales 2014 the day it opened, there's nothing quite like it except maybe Kona.
Will do more Sprint events in training this time round and I'm cutting my programme to 21 weeks from 30.

Congratulations! You're not going to be popular heading off to Lanzarote in May (despite what she says now)!

Trust me, you can find time to train with a new born, as long as you are very organised. Key will be eating properly after the birth through to Lanzarote - we ate as and when, and not enough.

Congrats! Though you might want to start praying for a one week late arrival: if you plan on a three week taper, at present dangerousB jnr will arrive around the beginning of your final and biggest week of training. Not ideal...

Cheers guys!
As you can imagine though, these two things have been a bit of a cause for concern since we found out! The scan going very well has just confirmed that I've got to decide now what to do.

All of my peak weeks are going to be during the time that I've really got to be around and not off on 4 - 6 hour rides and leaving my girlfriend with a very newborn baby for 5 or so days come May doesn't seem quite right (and that's how I feel now, let alone then). Problem is, I've got to be looking at booking flights and accommodation very soon, so I can't just suck it and see. Further problem is that I transferred my entry to Lanzarote from Wales and I'm not altogether sure of the regs, but I can't see them favouring another transfer.

I think I may just have to call the WTC and throw myself on their mercy . . . and see if they have any biggrin

Mallorca's looking very interesting though, I've got to say!

Congratulations dangerousB!! Great news!! A 3 wheeler running buggy should now be on your Christmas list wink

Only 1 event so far for 2014 for me: Outlaw (full) on 27th July.

Currently maintaining steady training but starting out on The Sufferfest intermediate plan to improve my cycle strength / speed / stamina. I reckon that is where I'll see the biggest gains this year (well, that and transition training!!!)...

I'll hopefully get into the Caledonian Etape in 2014 too - really enjoyed this year's race and ideally I'd like to go sub 4 hours if possible.

Oooh burn! As a cyclist before I was into triathlon, hopefully I have some shreds of handling skills left.

My Autumn training has divebombed after I returned from holiday which has mainly been brought on by the early darkness now. The turbo trainer is in full use now and I'm still happy with my cycling. I'm maintaining/improving my swimming still through coached club sessions. My running has really fallen on its arse though. Before yesterday I had barely run in three weeks after smashing up my small toe. Went for a quick 2 miles yesterday (baring in mind I was recovering from a cold too) and almost died towards the end. Not good. Really need to crack on and address it before the beginning of the year as its my absolute clear weakness.

Allow me to cheer you up quite a lot then.

July and Aug (pre IMC): a total of 4.5 hours of running, plus 1 mile on beach.
25 Aug IMC: marathon (OK, I didn't run the aid stations and I didn't run mile 21.5 to mile 23, but otherwise...)
Since IMC: no running whatsoever (Drs orders).

Imagine how much I'm looking forward to the pain of running...!
