Morning All,
Anyone using a Suunto 9 or 5 as a fitness/running watch? whats the impression of them?
Better than garmin/Polar?
thanks in advance
No idea on the suunto, but would imagine it will be decent! Anyone using a Suunto 9 or 5 as a fitness/running watch? whats the impression of them?

My wife has a garmin 245 and that's pretty decent I have a 745 does the job well, my 735xt was the best however, really good watch that!
Has anyone had insomnia after running? And did you manage to cure it? I'm getting a bit fed up at waking up at 3 in the morning and not getting back to sleep the night after I run...
6 nights of the week I don't have a problem sleeping but if I run in the evening (630, usual club time) then I'm quite likely to wake up at 3 or 4 then not get back to sleep.

I’ve had both the 9 and the 5. They’re both good watches.Anyone using a Suunto 9 or 5 as a fitness/running watch? whats the impression of them?

I recently bought a Coros Pace 2 which I’m liking. Recommended by my son who runs at a pretty high level so if it’s good enough for him then it does me

Yeah, it’s quite common. You’re effectively stimulating yourself, and raising your heart rate and body temperature, all of which are going to interfere with your sleep. I track my sleep religiously, and although I don’t have a problem falling asleep after an evening run, the quality of that sleep typically suffers, particularly with less deep sleep. 6 nights of the week I don't have a problem sleeping but if I run in the evening (630, usual club time) then I'm quite likely to wake up at 3 or 4 then not get back to sleep.
For about two weeks now I've had a bit of a tender left hip (right near left glute, sort of in the socket area), plus also a tender left inner shin. It's very similar feeling to shin splints but I've barely been running.
I think the left hip may be an imbalance from weak glutes and possibly a tight IT band or something similar
The inner shin I'm not sure, maybe a tight calf? I don't believe it's overuse.

I did and after doing a bit or research for me it was the fact I was dehydrated.6 nights of the week I don't have a problem sleeping but if I run in the evening (630, usual club time) then I'm quite likely to wake up at 3 or 4 then not get back to sleep.
So I always make sure to drink more after an evening run. Sleep just fine now.
Afternoon runners. I have a half marathon in a fortnight and I've done a moderate amount of training. Target is 2 hours. I can run fast enough, and I can run far enough...but so far not at the same time. We'll see.
Anyway, I wondered if anyone knows what is the oldest, cheapest Apple Watch that will run strava and podcasts to wireless earbuds without me having to take my phone with me?
Thanks in advance.

I would just buy a garmin that can play music, you will be able to grab cheap ones on Facebook, I think vivo active play music? I suggest garmin as the activity tracking will be better.Anyway, I wondered if anyone knows what is the oldest, cheapest Apple Watch that will run strava and podcasts to wireless earbuds without me having to take my phone with me?

Can anyone help with some advice. I normally just run with my Apple Watch and record the run in the Apple workout app and then import that into strava.
Today I ran a regular 5k route using my Apple Watch as above but this took my phone as new shorts have a zip pocket.
On the run the watch reported the first 1km in line with expected pace and at usual 1k point but then 2nd kilometre was called out early (distance wise) and pace was too fast (said 4min / km vs realistic 5min/ km.
Things seemed to settle down after that but by the end of the run the watch said I’d run further than the usual recorded distance. As such Strava then flagged this as a new 5k PB. I’ve deleted the run from strava but googling suggested this might be due to iPhone cutting corners on route. The gp trail on starva didn’t look perfect but didn’t seem too bad.
Was this just bad luck with gps or did it have anything to do with my taking the iPhone with me ?
Thanks for any insights !

Really difficult to tell . But I have seen jumps in tracking, but that normally shows a straight line between where the tracker was stopped and res tarted. And huge speed.
morning all,
i joined the local running club in the last weeks and since then my weekly km has gone from 30km to almost 60km. i want to dial it down this week but i am not sure by how much. ive ran 700km this year so far so maybe im ok with the volume but want to avoid injury. the upsurge came as i would join them for runs and after 10km the question would be asked ;eh how far are we going??' then it was 'yeah another hour...'

If your body is used to 30km weeks then doubling it is a big ask and may or may not be sustainable. 60Km is not a huge mileage though and may be OK, but it's sensible to build up gradually. I'd guess that the running club mileage won't all be easy and you'll be doing interval and tempo session as part of that as well, which increases the risk.i joined the local running club in the last weeks and since then my weekly km has gone from 30km to almost 60km. i want to dial it down this week but i am not sure by how much. ive ran 700km this year so far so maybe im ok with the volume but want to avoid injury. the upsurge came as i would join them for runs and after 10km the question would be asked ;eh how far are we going??' then it was 'yeah another hour...'
Guidance when building mileage is to
- increase mileage at a max rate of 10% per week
- Only easy miles while increasing your mileage
- Maintain the new rate for a couple of weeks before introducing speed work
- Every 3-4 weeks reduce the volume but not the intensity by 40% to allow recovery / adaptations to take place
- Strength and conditioning work is critical... don't just run
I'd probably knock it back to 40Km next week, then build from there as above.

I had a similar issue with my Garmin watch in a half marathon a couple of weeks ago. It recorded 12.54 miles, with the main issues being under recording of distance in the first few miles. The solution which worked for me was to use the "Correct Distance" option in Strava and it adjusted all the mile splits and the overall distanceToday I ran a regular 5k route using my Apple Watch as above but this took my phone as new shorts have a zip pocket.
