As I used to say in the 90s as Heaton Moor were getting one of their regular beastings: "it's a good one to win from here, lads"

We are woeful today.

Can Care rid the English players of their lethargy? Ireland haven’t looked particularly amazing, but we’ve flattered them

No complaints with the inevitable Ireland win. Without a doubt the 2nd best team in world rugby and providing a lesson not simply in how to play Championship rugby, but how to develop such a team from very limited playing numbers.

The English system of the national union having to bargain with club owners for access to players and having no control or influence over where, positionally, they play, or indeed being able to rest them at will, will hugely damage the national side's ability to ever reach their potential. It's infuriating to watch the negative effects of that structure playing out on the pitch

I'd be more worried with our "plan" to keep old stagers like Cole, Haskell and Marler in the side, when they are known penalty infringers AND can't keep up.

Why has it taken this long for Armand to get on - he can make no realistic difference now. 20 minutes earlier would have been good.

France can't finish ahead of England on 10 points. Lose by <7 they get a BP, lose by >7 their points difference will be worse than England.

I missed the first 20 minutes, but what I did see was England being stupid, and then repeating the mistakes. Our last 20 mins weren't bad, again.

but, well done Ireland, definitely the best team this year.

I still reckon Scotland. Their fitness will tell.
I still thing Scotland will win, with two tries in the last quarter. I think.

I'm confused. Which country does this Italian team come from?

Good fun this match. The Italians have their lead through merit.
I could have no complaints if Italy had won that match.

It's been a close 6N so far, with some 'unusual' results.

I've been watching with some knowledgeable blokes. The English and the Welsh chap agree that this is the best thing to happen to England for the WC, as long as the RFU get a grip.

Ah, well, so it's terrible for England.

It was an exciting match to watch but once the final Irish penalty went over it wasn't the only thing that was over.

The team was shuffled around. That never helps. England players haven't played to their ability and I don't know why. Look at Italy and Scotland for what teams can do when . . . when what? Is it coaching?

The fault has to be found and sorted, but then that needs an inspired and intelligent response from the RFU.

Well played the Irish. A well deserved 6N GS, and one that they should be well chuffed with. They got that through their play.

Delighted with the Grand Slam, but it means so much to have a set of new young Irish players competing at this level now too. James Ryan and Larmour in particular

Scotland and Ireland are helped by their small pool of players playing for a limited number of clubs and benefiting from that familiarity.

For example, 13 of Scotland's 23 today, play for Glasgow, and another 5 or 6 for Edinburgh.

The bulk of Ireland's squad come from three provinces.
