Well played the Irish. A well deserved 6N GS, and one that they should be well chuffed with. They got that through their play.
+1
+2

Thoroughly deserve their #2 ranking and their GS.

Was i right in witnessing Mike Brown actually do a pass?! It was just the one and very small, but quite a revelation!

Eddie Jones saying some England players today have played their last for the national team.

Let's hope it's the right ones, then.

Who's the betting on, do we think?

I'll open with a Cole.

Haskell
Marler
Brown

Mind you, JJ’s had a shocker this tournament, but I think there’s more in him than he’s being allowed to play.

This is awful. How we are still in the lead is a miracle.

Was Hartley on the pitch today? Did anyone see him contribute anything? Was his name mentioned in commentary?

England with de facto wooden spoon. Awkward. Worst performance in two decades.

I think Eddie has taken this team as far as he can.

Generally only for the Scots or Welsh...

Very poor. The Italy game flattered and was showing signs of what was to come. It got worse from there.

Shame Eddie didn't realise some of those players weren't good enough before the tournament. Haskell, Cole, Itoje would definitely not be anywhere near the side again for me.

Probably easier to note the ones who definitely would...Daly's a very good player. I thought Farrell was pretty good throughout (though has "brain"farts). I like Launchberry. Not sure MV was fully fit but he'd stay.

The rest need work (at best).

Back to the drawing board Eddie. If the issues were easy to fix, we wouldn't have lost three games and been flattered in the other two. There are fundamental issues in that squad, and I suspect it's that they cannot do two things at once - once drilled with the basics and discipline, it works. Then expect them to step it up a gear and think on the pitch and it all falls apart.

Well done Ireland - quality side. Have they peaked too soon? They do look very lively though.

The rest of the sides were all the proverbial curate's egg. Scotland were lucky today. As were the Welsh. Italy very unlucky.

I watched most of the Wales/France match on tablet - don't ask - and I still can't see how Wales won it. I mean apart from them scoring 1 point more than France.

Let's not name names, especially when it's hyphenated and difficult to spell, but the number 10 is the most important position on the pitch. It is a shame for France they didn't have one.

How many penalties did Wales commit in the second half? Enough for a yellow was my impression.

An exciting game to watch, even on a small screen. There was no sound either so that was a bonus.

It's difficult to know whether to congratulate France for playing well or condemning them for losing a match they should have won.

Well done to Wales for stopping them scoring. I wonder if they know how because I'm damned if I do.

A good 6N overall I think. It is a positive to have the teams more or less on a level.

Parisse's last? I thought he played well today, certainly up from his normal level this tournament. One of the all time great's I suppose, but without the tinware to support it.

Scotland and Ireland are helped by their small pool of players playing for a limited number of clubs and benefiting from that familiarity.

For example, 13 of Scotland's 23 today, play for Glasgow, and another 5 or 6 for Edinburgh.

The bulk of Ireland's squad come from three provinces.
I agree. It is an advantage. I'm not sure it counterbalances the resources England has. Or perhaps I meant it should not counterbalance England's advantage.

Some of the layoffs were spectacular, the runner knowing he's got the backup.

Harsh judgement on Maro. Not had a good 6N (like most), but had a meteoric rise so far, is still young so lots to learn, and both Sarries, and England can ensure he improves further.
He'll be around for a while yet.

I asked a football loving friend about the English attitude to sport 2 weeks ago, in his opinion they are bad losers and even poorer winners.

Thanks for that.

Ever been in a train coming away from Twickers after a game against Wales? It's great time going but coming back it's thoroughly enjoyable. One time the Welsh won - so going back a few years now - and the other time we won. As always, in the ground we mixed. Sharing cakes and alcohol. The banter from both sides was entrancing. The applause came from both sides for all the tries. What rugby is all about.

I was at a rugby match when we clapped the foreign team both in and out despite out English team losing.

Some people have a point of view that is often gained by what they read on forums.

I've policed on days of rugby matches. I've only once arrested a rugby supporter from an international match. I won't identify their nationality but he wasn't from England.
