Panning out exactly as predicted fro an Egbaston match.
Finch lost this match the second he decided to bat first.
Eng deserving winners.
Will be a very interesting final if the Kiwis turn up and play to their potential.
I thought Finch batting was a reasonable plan. Not much you can do though if you are back in the hutch after ball one. They backed themselves with the bat and I can understand why. Finch lost this match the second he decided to bat first.

However bowling Starc in swinging conditions might have been the better bet.

Aus could have begun to rehabilitate their reputation after sandpapergate by withdrawing their appeal. But it's just not in their nature.
Come off it, no cricket team in the world would do that. Umpires make the calls not the players. Exactly what Australia were appealing for is unclear, but the have consistently appealed for leg side catches all through this game.

Always good to win the word cup. We're used to it, so we do rate it. But you can't win all of them.
Ashes is the focus now. Be interesting to see how the weather plays out over the next few weeks - it will be very important for both sides.
Well as we haven’t beaten Australia in any World Cup game since 1992, you must forgive us this moment. Ashes is the focus now. Be interesting to see how the weather plays out over the next few weeks - it will be very important for both sides.
So happy we smashed it !

I wouldn't be surprised if Broad does not get selected, Archer will have to play as will wood if he's fit, Raw pace has to be the key for us, Anderson will play if he gets over his injury & i guess that leaves the selectors the headache of picking either Broad, Woakes or Curran. That is assuming Rashid & Stokes are defo's too.
Ben Foakes hasn't done much wrong but i can't see him getting in tbh.
I do think Jimmy will call it a day after this Ashes series too.
Jimmy has said repeatedly he wants to play on for as long as his form and body allow. Ben Foakes hasn't done much wrong but i can't see him getting in tbh.

This is a minor calf tear, he should be back and is a shoe in for the test team. Broad however is unlikely to be selected over Wood and Archer. Stokes plays and I think Rashid has to play now as number one test spinner (Mo is done imho). Wood however won’t manage a five match test series. I think Curran is the pick of the rest.
I cannot see YJB opening in a test.

I wouldn't pick Anderson or Broad.
Just out of interest, why would you drop Anderson ? Appreciate he hasn’t made a century in like, ever. But that is mostly because his partners get out at the other end. His bowling stats in the last three years (and even last one year) are better than his career average.

Almost pinching myself watching that today....bowlers were magnificent, some hugely committed and high class fielding helped keep the pressure on and then well what can you say about Roy and Bairstow. There was a caption on Sky that they average IIRC 67 as a partnership....next best is Greenidge and Haynes on 52....with some very big names around the 50 mark. Incredible stuff but undubatedly the bowlers who won that game. Roy and Archer have to play in The Ashes. The idea of dropping Anderson is lunacy ! Broad is a harder one to call but I am pretty sure he’ll start the series.
Lucky enough to be going to Lords on Sunday with my ten year old cricket mad son. Can’t bloody wait....got a shirt arriving tomorrow. Only the second time I’ve ever worn a team shirt to a match...last time was in Sydney in 2003![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

I am at Edgbaston for the first day of the Ashes .... so not all bad news.
Anderson by all accounts will be fit.

Now roll on to some proper cricket and a resumption of hostilities.
Indeed, should be a cracking series, I am looking forward to seeing if Root has evolved his captaincy and whether England still like a little collapse every now and then. I think the Aussie have a little more test nous than England, but will will see.

Ive only ever been once and that was to a T20 game. Only watched England once and that was at Old Trafford. Watched Yorkshire at Headingley.
I've played cricket at Headingley and at The Circle when I used to play for Hull CC (as Captain).
I really miss playing cricket.
That is plumb lbw
My old man took me to Lords for the first or second day of the Summer tests from 85-97 (Warner Stand) as he used to get the tickets off the Merchant Bank his company used. All very agreeable. I've played cricket at Headingley and at The Circle when I used to play for Hull CC (as Captain).

Then my mate worked at Vodafone so we went every year whilst they were the sponsors.
I guess I have been upwards of 20 times. So have been pretty lucky really.
