New grips for the irons

On the topic of align grips I bought a set of of Srixon Z765 irons off golfbidder a few days before the lockdown.

They have got normal golf pride grips on them but whoever the previous owner was has done something to form a ridge down the back of the grip. It's not really visible but you can really feel it when holding the club.

They feel quite pleasing to hold.
The VR Pros I got from Golfbidder had the same grips on them. They were actually the precursor to the Align models - believe they were called Tour Velvet Ribbed (oo-er) and they still look to be available from Titleist and Mizuno as a custom order.

My pro couldn't get hold of them without ordering clubs, so I had mine replaced with Tour Velvet Align - feel is identical.

Only small issue I have with they Align grips are they can result in me gripping too hard with my left hand, which normally results in a big pull. As long as I bear that in mind, they're awesome.
After a quick Google it seems like they most definitely are the tour ribbed.

I've often noticed the 'ribbed' grips when shopping for new grips but never realised what they were. You learn something new everyday!
Wow I did not realise we had a golf thread on here!!!

Excellent!

Tour velvet bct (ribbed & corded) are my weapon of choice!! (Got a few in the garage to keep me going).
Grips are available ribbed ( actually called Reminder) or round

( apart from different sizes) ribbed grips have a spine down the underside so it aids your grip. Limited on size though.

Decades ago they used wire under the tape and grip. (Ben Hogan)

They say on the inside of the grip on the lip , size as well
Eg. 60 or say 58R .580 inner core size and Round
General two sizes .600 and .580

Round ones have no Rib, I prefer these and obviously good for on clubs / shafts with adjustable Necks for loft/ lie

Hope that helps.

Looks like golf from Wednesday is a goer as long as it's with members of the same households - I assume it's down to the individual clubs now when we can play again?

The regs also say 1 person at a distance from another household? Could get 2 balls then.

Only saving grace is golfing buddy’s a and I have basically made a big household over the last few weeks so should hopefully keep our normal 3 ball.

When it restarts at our place, it's 2 balls only, with tee-times pre-booked and starting at strict 10 minute intervals.

No one can book more than one tee-time in any 36 hour period.

For now at least, it'd be cheaper for me to pay and play, rather than take my membership off suspension.

So two friends can meet in a park, stay there all day with countless other people, as long as they all stay two metres apart.

Yet those same two friends can't play nine holes of golf, even if they remain ten metres apart and fitfy metres from anyone else.

They really haven't thought this through.

Yes we are seeking clarification from England golf on this. It is a total mess.

Looks like we have a clearer view now - you can play with one other person as long as you stay 2m away from each other. It's causing a few awkward conversations in our regular 3 ball, but makes more sense and is better than no golf at all.

Also had an update that our local Driving Range is opening too - limited bays and you have to book before you go.

Just go and meet new people...simples.

It feels like a weight off the shoulders being able to go out and play now....good job I fish as well smile

Are other clubs asking for volunteer marshalls? Our club is asking for car park, course and timing marshalls to cover 2 hour slots from 7am-7.30 pm each day. That's a big ask !

Nope, that’s all a bit OTT

Ours is basically implementing the restrictions but asking for common sense. Putting green, nets and range etc are open, pro-shop will be a hatch and locker rooms only for access/toilets etc. Basically the underlying recommendations.

Have heard that another course in the area is still implementing things like closed bars, single people in buggy’s but still allowing 4 balls etc, trusting people not to be stupid.

On a golfing note, the local range says it has reopened (not sure when) so may head there later.

As I have 9.5 days of holiday left to take over the next 7 weeks I’ve taken tomorrow and Friday afternoon off, plus playing again on Sunday morning.

Thanks for the reply - Have just posted that I've heard other clubs are relying on common sense and volunteer marshalls were OTT.
A lot of the weekday members are elderly and in the 'vulnerable' group, so no idea who they thought were likely to need marshalling, perhaps the junior members - who can't go to school due to Covid-19 but Ok to play on the golf course instead.

Welsh courses open from next Monday!!!!

When the announcement was made the other day that they were staying closed, out of sheer boredom and frustration I ripped out the kitchen. Now, unless I get the kitchen gets completed by Monday I am going to be eating microwave meals and washing my dishes in the bath for the foreseeable months!

I would argue that it's absolutely not OK for people to be volunteering to do any marashalling! It's hardly essential.

The message at our club is to turn up 10 minutes before your tee time, change shoes in the car park, play golf and go home.

Also now booked with different people for Fri - 1.45pm and Mon & Weds - 2.00pm.

I've just checked on my buggy which I acquired in August last year and it's looking good. It was broken when I bought it so I had the mechanical problems fixed and then renovated the rest of it myself.

I played a lot through last winter but couldn't use it at all due to the wet ground and then just when the weather changed we were locked down so it's been sitting there waiting for this moment.

I'm planning on playing about three rounds a week now I'm fully retired so it will probably get used on one or two of them to take the strain off of my aging body.
