Well, England dodged a bullet there -they really can't rely on any more heroic innings to save them in this series

Drop the 2 openers and Buttler I would think....
Are you the guy who pisses in the rum punch bowl at the party?

Have stayed off here all day for fear of jinxing!

What a feckin test!

Stokes for SPoTY and a knighthood!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE cricket.

Bairstow, Buttler and Woakes need to take a good hard look at themselves though. And Root for that matter.

Tears in my eyes when Ben started unloading, leaping round the garden at the end, even Jules came out with her arms up, she used to think cricket was genteel and quiet

Must rank up there as one of the greatest test match innings of all time.
I can't think of one by an English player.
Even Botham's in 1981 was in the 3rd innings.
It's right up there. Brilliant performance. Beefy also took 6 wickets and you can't compare eras but, yes was a defining innings there! bow

Very good John, your insight is spot on as always !

What a game.

Fantastic, despite us being utterly useless in the first innings.
Can only call it as it seems.

Amazing innings from Stokes. Aussies choked a la South Africa.

Great for the series, great for England. Australia need to take a hard look at some of their choices. Gutting, but that is cricket.

That took some guts, fair play to them. They've got a lot of slagging off (including from me) but a couple of them put themselves forward there and did brilliantly.

I am speechless.

I think you have that right John...there was a great deal of choking by the Aussie team, from the Captain to the bowling attack.

"Watched" the last 2 hours on the BBC website on my lap top from Indiana with 600,000 others. What a win, still can't quite believe it. I'm old enough to remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when the final wicket went down at Headingly in '81. This matches it. Great job England, great job Ben Stokes, great job Jack Leach.

I can't believe that many people can get around one laptop.

Not sure why Buttler is getting pelted a on here. He was run out by his partner. He isn’t in great form for sure, but if we a dropping batsman there are others more in line I think

So...do you think Jack Leach has earned the right for his club down in Somerset to waive his £10 match fee next Sunday?

I was sweating like Fred West watching ground force there. What a result:
