Great win for Fitzpatrick and a brilliant 3rd OoM for Westwood. What a stalwart of European golf he's been over the years.

Can't wait for the weekend again now!

I was really pleased for Westwood, and pleased that Reed didn't win.

It was great that the drama went to the final few holes of the season.

Whatever we think about Reed you can't argue with his short game. Three chips into the hole in one round has got to be some kind of record.

I was Reed-esque on Saturday, with no less than 7 very good up and downs (1 from a bunker). No hole-outs though unfortunately!

He has the most incredible soft hands. (!!!)

I spent a good half hour watching him practice pitching at The Open in 2017. Buttery.

Bugger-all, chum.

Between being busy at work (3 days holiday in 2020), lock-downs, shut-downs, Tiers, and feeling guilty about leaving Mrs Jim with the kids at the weekend have meant no golf since about May.

I've even stopped dreaming about it. (Last night I was a footballer, which admittedly was good)

Played for the first time since October and the course was a bit of a mud bath but was another frustrating round. I play off 32 and only normally play 9 holes but never seem to put a round together.

Started off Par, Bogey, Par, then an 8, bogey, 10, double bogey, bogey, bogey. Striking the ball better than ever, but just seems that if I have a bad hole it tends to be a shocker and ruin the card.

Same as me. Have been out for a few rounds (3 in the last 4 days) and whilst I had some decent rounds (2) 1 was a shocker!

I think that's what's so good about the new WHS - you're now based on an average of your best 8 scores out of the last 20.

No more going up 0.1 everytime you play. I have a bit of a buffer now as there are 4 poor scores at the bottom of my 20 games which aren't included in my best average, so in theory I could have 4 stinkers and still not affect my handicap.

Those people with counted scores on the cut line however, will see a quick change to handicap if they're replaced with poorer scores.

Is that basically how to calc the new handicap? Average of the 8 best scores of your last 20 rounds?
I've not looked to be honest, and we still use the old system to work out ours (not a member anywhere so not an official HC but it keeps us interested).

I think this new system sounds better, tbh.

Hi all,

I think its time to get a custom fitting for some new irons.

I was wondering - should I book a session now or after boxing day?

My local club offer price matching with most online retailers so not sure what to do.....

Why the delay? Are you expecting Boxing Day sales?

Possibly - although not sure if irons go into sale?

Do it when you’re ready, you won’t get a Boxing Day sale on custom fit irons.

If possible you want to try the irons from real turf as well, not always easy at this time of year depending on where you play!

What irons have you got it mind? What do you play off?

Currently play off 17.

Have been looking at Mixuno JPX 919/921’s, Ping G710’s, Titleist T100 and maybe the Taylor are P7MC’s.

Any other suggestions?

My personal preference is for forged Mizuno, but you can't go far wrong with the Pings either, IMO.

I'd rate those two above Titleist and TM, based on no data whatsoever.

The glossy marketing videos about the advantages of forging on the Mizuno website are very persuasive though!

You might get a deal on some irons if the manufacturer has released a new version, and the pro shop wants to clear out some old stock. You will need to pay for the custom fit element but you might get a deal.

Someone like American Golf should have the majority of the irons that you listed, so worth trying them first to see what you like.
