Don't really have anything to add that hasn't already been said. Ben Stokes is just a wonderful cricketer and Jack Leach was superb in calmly holding up an end. That switch hit by Ben was absolutely ludicrous and I only started to believe when Hazlewood went to all parts.

Cricket. Bloody hell!

Simply stunning!

Watch when Stokes gets his 100; he does not remove his helmet, just gives a quick acknowledgment to the crowd. He knew what was important, and he could do it, and he did it.

Got a question. When Lyon stumped Buttler the ball wasn't in his hand, it sort of ran into his feet. Did I miss something or is legitimate to knock the bails off with your bare hands in this situation? I played it back a few times to look at it again. I assume it was as no one referred to it.

If you look closely the throw actually hits the stumps directly.

I took a few times for me to see it on the replay as well.

I think it was a direct hit with the ball, so the bails were already flying when Lyon hit them with his hand.

Cheers I wasn't trying to suggest it was dodgy, I got distracted by Lyon right on the stumps waiting for the catch.

That was true Test cricket, both teams gave it everything, Hazlewood, Cummins and Pattinson must've been blown by the finish. All credit to Jack Leach too, he was absolutely instrumental to the finish, such an intelligent innings.

Have stayed off here all day for fear of jinxing!

What a feckin test!

Stokes for SPoTY and a knighthood!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE cricket.

Bairstow, Buttler and Woakes need to take a good hard look at themselves though. And Root for that matter.
This in spades. All of it! Wow. Cricket is just insane drama at times and there is no feeling like it.

Indeed, it was only on the third angle of replay that I saw it. Having, sadly, declared to the whole pub that the WK was a cheating criminal scumbag. :getscoat:

Based purely on the merits of this innings, Bairstow did ok, Buttler was run out by Stokes, Woakes did play a poor stroke and Root managed 77. Obviously, they were all utterly ste in the first innings though, which ruined my Friday.

Always worth saving your best opener for number 11
That would make a great fan mask for the next venue.
Not sure the Aussie would agree though.

Just watched highlights. The BBC text feed did not do Stokes enough justice in real time. That was spectacular

The switch hit 6 was astounding.

The two sixes in a row more so.

The fact he did all of this after running out Buttler and out of partners.

I've never heard an atmosphere like it.

I expected us to fall short up until that last stroke.

Roy has to be dropped I think. Something has to change at the top.

Woakes will probably be dropped for Jimmy.

That innings was pure drama and Stokes was pure genius.

There’s nothing like the feeling you get from spectacular sporting occasions.
