4-0 up in the 2nd now....! What's Azarenka doing out there? Thought she would be challenging in this....!

Jessica Pegula next who's ranked 7 in the world. If she's on form, that will be a tough match for Emma.
To be played tomorrow (Thursday)

Emma takes on American No 1 Jessica Pegula later today..
Dare say she'll challenge Emma in a way Victoria Azarenka couldn't...!

I'd be happy seeing Emma going further in this tournament, gain some matchplay, confidence and improved fitness, but I'd prefer her to do more in the US Open in defence of her title.. She seems mentally strong and in a good place which is nice to see smile

The match started earlier than expected. I had it down as starting at 1am.
And watching the scorecard, it's looking like more of a challenge for Emma....!

Jessica Pegula was just too good for Emma last night. Emma's serve being broken to go down 6-5 made it easier for Jessica to serve out the first set. Think Emma competed well and hopefully she's more match-sharp for the US Open smile

Emma Raducanu's earnings revealed as star makes Forbes' world tennis rich list

Earned just under £18M this year (£2.6M on the Court).

Who'd have thought that winning a tournament and being fairly pleasing on the eye would result in such amounts. No wonder her head hasn't really been in the game since.

I'm honestly surprised she earned that much. Her reported sponsorship numbers out there didn't amount to this sum.
She's certainly made hay whilst the sun shined! Her 1st match in this years US Open is against Alize Cornet who put out Iga Swiatek in the 3rd round at Wimbledon this year - That will be very challenging for Emma..

I have more hope over expectation of Emma's chances at this years US Open.
She could drop down to about 85 in the rankings if she doesn't go far in to the tournament.
If that is the case, I think we can put to the back of our minds her US Open title win last year, go back to square one and see her start again.
If she has a good team around her in 2023 that isn't constantly changing, the stability can only be good for her, and then it will be down to her own health and fitness.
The ladies game is so open and competitive at the moment, that no one player is leaps and bounds above the rest...

1st step. Alize Cornet on Wednesday... Tough... Very tough..

Live rankings has her down to 79 today - still British Ladies number 1 over Harriet Dart...
...but only just.
Dart has just won her 1st Round Match at the US Open, and it looks like she had to battle hard for it too.....!

Sorry to see Emma losing in the 1st round to Alize Cornet.. Wasn't surprised in fairness, as Cornet is playing her in her 63rd consecutive major tournament at this years US Open, and is an in form player and clearly has so much more experience than Emma on the tour.

For Emma, winning last years US Open title was just the first chapter (a remarkable one for sure) in her tennis career.

She now goes into part two, target off her back, and hopefully with less expectations from the media and fans.

She may never acheive again what she acheived in 2021 - US Open Champion, winning 10 consecutive matches, but at the age of just 19, time is on her side. Ambition, fitness and correct management decisions permitting, there could be much more to come...

Here's hoping...! smile
