We’re Touring New Zealand and then South Africa this winter....and then we have The Windies and Pakistan next summer. I reckon he’ll play until next summer...25 wickets to get to 600. Could be a long time before another seam/pace bowler challenges that.

A 37 year old fast bowler is living on borrowed time career wise, most are crocked by the time they reach their mid-thirties. Knee and back problems are pretty endemic, even 24 year old Jofra Archer needed injections for a side strain just before his super over appearance in the WC. At least he did make the team and get injured again, that really buggered our chances in the 1st Test, before Smith had that amazing knock.

This'll be a very interesting game next week, we've got win both games, and arguably have the momentum after that frankly ludicrous second innings recovery, Australia only have to win one of the two remaining games and have Smith back (they are bound to play Labuschagne too which will make things even more difficult). I wonder if Starc will come back in too, probably for Pattinson. Australia have less to do, less pressure on them and are presumably still favourites.

I think Denly may as well start, as him, Root and in fact the entire team faced a fairly new unmolested ball in the first innings at Headingley. It'd be nice for the opening pair to stay in for a bit, ten overs without a wicket really starts to affect the morale of any fielding team.

Yes I think Jimmy will play again if he wants to.

He barely plays outside of playing Test Matches these days....a couple of County Champ matches every April to warm him up for the summer and then probably 12 to 15 test matches through our summer and the overseas tours. He’s also got a pretty economical/efficient action.

Be great to have him around for a couple of years just to pass on the arts to the bowlers coming through. Most bowlers don’t really develop/have a full armoury TIL their late 20’s. He didn’t bowl his inswinger in a test match until he was 27 or 28....spent years working on it!

I think a win at Old Trafford is critical as the last Test is so late in Sept that weather, bad light, dew could play a part.

Good move, I just hope Denly doesn't choke now. I'm quite keen to see Roy bashing an old ball around a bit.

Seems fairly logical, not wholly convinced on Denly opening but as you say if he can just stay in for a bit then it might have a sizeable impact on Roys innings

Basically he'll say to them; If you fk this one up, don't bother coming back to Australia for a bit.

I didn't realise that James Pattinson was English.

His brother Darren played for England in one game. Darren was born in this country though.

Looks like Starc is back. Him verses Denly opening could be cringe-worthy. Denly's not test standard & hasn't got the technique/ reflexes against express pace.

No hiding place in test cricket.

Hopefully Archer might show Smith a thing or two.
I wonder if the first to him will be a nice loosener... I also wonder if Smith will have, in the back of his mind, what happened...

He's not the only one eligible to play for England, so is Steve Smith

Yep, pretty grim weather wise here about 10miles away from Old Trafford. 😏

Stuck my hand in my pocket for a NowTV pass for the next two tests.

Sky Sports just showed a quick highlights reel, still can't believe that last innings laugh

Let’s hope all the happy optimism and good feelings are carried into this test. With a little bit more confidence the England batting line up might thrive.
