My advice woukd be to not worry about the score too much and just have fun, then just wait for the awesome shots you hit to bring you back for more. But don't think about your lessons too much, just stand up and hit the bloody thing
That proved to be very good advice indeed, I ended up settling on teeing off with the 6 iron for safety.
Was the only one of the group to hit a birdie, so was over the moon with that, a 180 yard par3 across a “valley” then a lucky 10’ putt.
So frustrating to reach the green with guys and then 4 or 5 putt!
Greens were so much faster than I imagined and just kept over hitting everything,
Definitely hooked though.

Am in Gran Canaria on a family holiday at the mo, and have been told I am more than welcome to go for a game at some point. Any ideas which course I should be looking at? We're near Anfi but that looks well expensive, so other options are welcome
We were in Gran Canaria earlier this year and I played Maspalomas, Meloneras and Salobre, all of them are pretty expensive during peak times but a twilight round is the key as they are mostly less than half price depending on the actual time, check out the Gran Cararia Golf website for deals.Am in Gran Canaria on a family holiday at the mo, and have been told I am more than welcome to go for a game at some point. My wife doesn't play so when I booked I asked to be paired up with someone if possible, at Maspalomas I played with a couple of guys from Iceland, at Meloneras it was a French couple and at Salobre I was with English guy whose wife also wasn't playing so they drove the buggies for us.
Maspalomas is good for walking, at Salobre you definitely need a buggy, you could walk or drive at Meloneras but a buggy certainly made it easier.

Sounds like every drive I've ever hit.... I ended up settling on teeing off with the 6 iron for safety.

Glad you enjoyed it. Golf is a frustratingly brilliant game which can give you the highest highs and then the lowest lows.... and back again, sometimes all on the same bloody hole! I've lost count of the number of times I've played 17 holes terribly and been about to stick my clubs on Ebay then hit a beautiful drive/great approach/sunk a 20-foot putt on the last hole and the clubs get a reprieve.
Definitely agree with all of the above having played terribly in a 'fun' Bowmaker comp yesterday after a string of high-30pts scores. Had a rotten first shot on the shotgun start and it just carried on from there. Team mentality kicks in for me in a bad way and I start feeling like I'm letting my team mates down. Plus having thought I'd cracked my bunker hoodoo during a Saturday practice it turned out I hadn't when it came to the actual game
Having said all that, my team managed to win the thing. Never enjoyed winning less!

Off to play in the NYD scramble in 5 mins, only thing is i feel horrendous and am still seeing 2 of everything after the copious amounts of wine, port, shots and cheese consumed and hen chundered last night...thankfully I’m being collected!
Let’s see if horrifically mess this one up, worst is they guys I’m playing with were in a worse state...wish me luck!

Indeed, wasn’t too bad!
Texas scramble, we were all feeing a bit battered and roped in a friend’s dad to give a total handicap of 51 - 10% = 5.1
Rules were we had to use 3 tee shots from each person and unless putting the person who hit the tee shot couldn’t hit the second. In the end we shot 7 under gross, 12 under net which apparently wasn’t too bad! Left a few shots out there too!
Biggest casualty had to be my mates carpet however, spilling port was never going to be pretty....

First hole in one for me today, a decent 5 iron into a par 3. Topography of the hole meant nobody saw it go in but it'll take me a while to forget the feeling of creeping up to the hole hoping against hope that I might see that little yellow Dunlop in there. As a bonus, golf club port is on special at Morrisons.

Congratulations BP.Had my one and only one at a chip and putt in Bath nine years ago. Had to stand on tiptoe to watch it go straight in on the full and take half of the hole away with it. There's no clubhouse as such so ended up spending about £15 on flapjacks and bottles of coke instead.
It was the 17th so I retired the ball straight away and have never played with it since.

Congratulations BP, fantastic. There's no better feeling. Every time I tee up on the 16th where I play and recorded my first ever hole in one, I have thoughts of replicating the shot! It never works hahahahaGassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
