Something Andy Murray couldn't do, so fair play to her. Hope she does well.

I just hope our resident tennis "experts" can support her rather than predicting her downfall.
I’m not an “expert” but I’m still allowed an opinion.

If she wins in the next round, and Katie Boulter does the same, they will play each other in the third round.

Playing against - checks notes. - ranked 161 and going down, against 32 and going up.
There is a lot more depth in the men’s draw.
ER plays the 22 seed next - if she wins that all good, but it doesn’t mean she’s going to win the tournament if she looses then not all bad, she is starting again pretty much from scratch.

Maybe it's time for a new coach.

Needs Andrew Richardson back. They should've paid his true value after the US open, it has all been downhill from there unfortunately.

Hope she gets on the challenger circuit for the next few months, builds fitness and gets some proper court time, rather than accepting sponsors invites to higher ranking tournaments and getting knocked out in second rounds.

What does this mean for her ranking?

Seems like someone who fluked a grand slam win and now thinks that social media and sponsorship deals are more important that actually being any good?

Yeah I mean she only reached the last 64 of a grand slam event, the exact same stage that our number 1 women's player reached.

Fluked? Did you watch any of the tennis she was producing at the time?

Don't worry he has been snapped up by a top player who is paying him his true value. I don't know who of course but I am sure it's happened.

The reality is that outside of those involved, no one actually knows what's happened and that any conflation between the split and her results are just wild guesses, at best. But perhaps you were part of the discussion.

My own guess is that her injuries and the need for 3 operations were more influential factors than any coach could have been so quite a moot point.

In hindsight she should have announced her immediate retirement from tennis after the US Open. Taken her 10's of millions and done something else.

I'm joking but imagine people's imagination after that. They would have been talking about her as a potential 30 GS player that gave it all up, the greatest ever.

Sometimes it's best to quit at the top.

Although if she wasn't going to show up on court any more then the sponsors may have thought twice before throwing money her direction.

Are you saying that having sponsors and social media is incompatible with being a top player? Would you have turned down the money? Do you think money affects her game?

Disappointing. I didn’t see the match but it seemed she had chances in the last set.

Injuries apart, I think the parents still have a little too much involvement and the revolving door of coaches isn't helping. ideally she needs to break away from her parents' meddling, firing the coach who helped her get the big win is risible.

Always two sides to a story, at least. Perhaps he is disgruntled. Perhaps he was too greedy. Perhaps it was a mistake not renewing his contract (he wasn't fired). Who knows?

I saw most of it, a very close match. She was very resilient in the second but the early break in the third sealed it sadly. It's disappointing but on the other hand she was very close to the level of an an on form player which is not bad after 9 months of practically no competitive tennis.
